Savoritz Turtles Baked Extra Cheddar Snack Crackers

For several years, Aldi has sold its own take on name-brand Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers. The Aldi crackers were not shaped like fish, though, but rather like penguins. They were cute and tasted good, with a nice cheesy flavor, but they didn’t taste exactly like Goldfish. In recent months, it looks like Aldi has tweaked its inventory and replaced the penguin crackers with something else: cheese-flavored baked turtle crackers. They’re just as cute-looking as their penguin predecessors.

Savoritz Turtles Baked Extra Cheddar Snack Crackers cost $1.49 for a 6.6-ounce bag at the time of publication.

These are a Regular Buy, which means you can find them at Aldi all year.

These are baked with real cheese and are kosher.

The first few ingredients include enriched wheat flour, cheddar cheese, and high oleic canola oil. If you’re avoiding allergens, these contain wheat and milk. The bag also states these contain bioengineered food ingredients.

One bag contains about six servings, and a 55-piece (30-gram) serving has 140 calories, 5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% DV), less than 5 mg of cholesterol (1% DV), 260 mg of sodium (11% DV), 20 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), less than 1 gram of dietary fiber (3% DV), no added sugars, and 3 grams of protein.

As mentioned above, the cheddar penguin-shaped crackers Aldi previously sold for years were good on their own merits, but I don’t think they tasted like name-brand Goldfish crackers. These new turtle crackers are closer to the mark, especially in terms of the cracker texture (I thought the old penguins had a lighter, flakier texture compared to Goldfish). Even if the turtles still may not be an exact replica of Goldfish, the turtles are also good in their own way. If all the bags of turtle crackers my kids have eaten are any indication, these are definitely a winner.

The Verdict:

Savoritz Turtles Baked Extra Cheddar Snack Crackers appear to have replaced Savoritz Penguins Baked Cheddar Crackers at Aldi. The turtle shapes are cute and have nice detailing, and while they are perhaps not an exact replica of name-brand Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers, they come pretty close. My family likes them so much that a bag never lasts long in my house.
