Serra Lounge Wear Ladies Cozy Knit Slipper Socks + Huntington Home Velvet Plush Sherpa Throw

Last Updated on November 9, 2018

It’s the time of year when Aldi stocks its stores with all sorts of cozy things for the colder days that are coming … or may already be here, depending on where you live. Shelves are filled with slippers, pajamas, robes, blankets, socks, velvet and flannel sheets, and candles. I also could go on about all the coffee, hot cocoa, and baked goods that appear this time of year.

These are all the kinds of things that make us want to stay in for the evening, to put on comfortable clothes and settle on the couch with family, a hot drink, and maybe a favorite movie or a book. It’s all very hygge. Hygge is a Danish term that is difficult to directly translate but basically encompasses a feeling of coziness and contentment with simple things.

Today, I’m looking at two cozy Aldi products currently in stores: The Serra Lounge Wear Ladies Cozy Knit Slipper Socks and the Huntington Home Velvet Plush Sherpa Throw. This is hygge.

I’ll start with these slipper socks. These are $3.99 at time of publication and come in a variety of colors and patterns, including solid colors, snowflakes, or a panda bear. They fit ladies’ shoe sizes 4-10, so they’re really a one-size-fits-all thing.

The shell is 71% acrylic, 28% polyester, and 1% elastane, while the sherpa-style lining is 100% polyester. There are gel grips on the bottom to prevent your feet from slipping, which I appreciate because my house has a lot of hardwood flooring. The slipper socks are made in China, and the tag says they are certified OEKO-TEX, meaning they are “free from harmful levels of over 300 substances.”

These can be machine washed in cold water with like colors. I would recommend washing on the delicate cycle. Do not tumble dry; instead lay these out to dry.

The slipper socks are quite warm and cozy, and not too bulky. When I first saw pictures of these in the Aldi ad, I assumed they were more like slipper boots that would come up above my ankles. These are about ankle-height. They’re like really cushy and warm flats.

Editor’s note: after wearing these slipper socks for about two weeks, they pilled quite a bit. Then, after about three weeks, the slipper socks developed holes below the big toes in both socks.

Just go buy one of these. For real.

I actually liked this blanket so much — and my kids kept wanting to take it from me — that I went out the next day and bought a second one in a different pattern. Hopefully there will be enough to go around now.

This is apparently velvet plush/sherpa week at Aldi because the store is also selling a sherpa-lined ladies’ robe and a velvet plush sheet set.

Anyway, this blanket is $12.99 and it’s the softest thing ever, and warm. This is not a light blanket for those times when you’re just a little chilly. This is for when you need something seriously warm. It’s 100% polyester and measures 50 inches by 60 inches. It’s really a one-person blanket rather than something two people can cuddle under.

Besides the warmth factor, I like the various patterns available with this blanket. One side, of course, is a white sherpa material, while the other side features a color or pattern. At time of publication, there are two different gray prints (I bought both), one solid gray, and one blue plaid option. The gray prints especially seem to be on trend and add a nice decorative touch to my living room.

Like the slipper socks, the blanket is made in China and has the OEKO-TEX certification indicating it has been tested for harmful chemicals. The packaging says to machine wash in cold water with like colors and tumble dry on low heat.

The Verdict:

Serra Lounge Wear Ladies Cozy Knit Slipper Socks and Special Buy Huntington Home Velvet Plush Sherpa Throw are among Aldi’s products to help ward off winter chills. The slipper socks pilled after I wore them for a few weeks, and then they developed holes under the big toes in both feet. I don’t anticipate keeping them around much longer, which is too bad because they were warm, comfortable, and I liked how they looked. The blankets have held up well, and my family members fight over who gets to use them because they’re so soft.
