Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt

A few Aldi foods recently were announced as winners in several categories in the 2021 Product of the Year competition, in which consumers vote for their favorites across a range of brands and products, including name brands. Aldi Product of the Year winners this year include white cheddar popcorn, Everything Bagel seasoning, protein pancake mix, and almond milk coffee creamer. Another winner was Aldi’s Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt.

I eat yogurt several times a week for breakfast, mixing it with fruit, honey, and granola. I try to stick primarily with yogurt that does not have added sugar, preferring to sweeten it with honey and fruit instead. I have a couple of yogurt standbys at Aldi, including Simply Nature Organic Whole Milk Plain Yogurt and Friendly Farms Light Nonfat Plain Yogurt.

Once I saw the hype about the Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt, I had to pick up some to try, even though it does have 15 grams of added sugars per serving. Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt

Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt comes in Honey or Honey Vanilla flavors and costs $3.49 for a 32-oz. container at the time of publication.

This is a Regular Buy, which means you can find it at Aldi year round.

I opted to purchase the Honey Vanilla flavor, but while I was in the store I snapped a photo of the nutrition label and ingredients for the Honey flavor, which you can view below:

The Honey flavor contains: cultured pasteurized Grade A milk, sugar, cream, brown sugar, honey, and pectin. It’s identical to the Honey Vanilla flavor in calories, fat, carbs, sugar content, etc.

And the following photo is of the nutrition information and ingredients for the Honey Vanilla flavor I purchased:

Ingredients for the Honey Vanilla flavor are: cultured pasteurized Grade A milk, sugar, cream, brown sugar, honey, pectin, natural flavor, and vanilla extract. The container also says this has live and active cultures (B Lactis, L. Acidophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Casei, L. Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Lactis, and S. Thermophilus).

If you’re watching out for allergens, this contains milk.

Both flavors have about five servings per container, with one 2/3-cup (170-gram) serving containing 200 calories, 8 grams of total fat (10% DV), 5 grams of saturated fat (25% DV), 30 mg of cholesterol (10% DV), 105 mg of sodium (5% DV), 25 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), no dietary fiber, 23 grams of total sugars, 15 grams of added sugars (30% DV), and 7 grams of protein.

I purchased my yogurt container in early March, and it had a sell-by date of early April, so this appears to have a reasonably long shelf life when stored in the fridge.

I initially tried this yogurt plain, without adding my usual fruit and granola, so I could get the full taste. It can be served either way, depending on your preference. It has the classic thick texture of Greek yogurt, although perhaps not as paste-y thick as some Greek yogurts I’ve had. The initial taste is tangy, and as I ate it, it left an aftertaste of honey and vanilla. If honey and vanilla are your things, this Greek yogurt may be just what you’re looking for.

The Verdict:

Specially Selected Indulgent Greek Yogurt comes in Honey or Honey Vanilla flavors and was recently voted by consumers as a Product of the Year winner. It contains live and active cultures and tastes good plain or served with fruit and granola.

  5. It is HANDS DOWN the most amazing yogurt I’ve ever had. I love the Honey vanilla. I often find myself almost eating the whole container at times. I’m officially addicted to it. And I can only find it at Aldis so when they are out of it at locations near me. I get pretty upset haha.

  6. I eat this yogurt every day. It is addictive. I particularly like the salted Carmel. My husband likes the lemon. I usually buy it 3 or 4 at a time because sometimes it is not available.
