Sundae Shoppe Chocolatey Coated Frozen Dairy Dessert

Last Updated on December 15, 2017

I’m a sucker for ice cream and frozen desserts. I also like many of Aldi’s Special Buy (ALDI Find) holiday treats that show up in stores this time of year. When Aldi combined ice cream and the holidays in the form of frozen dessert bars, I naturally bought a box. Aldi’s Sundae Shoppe Gourmet Chocolatey Coated Vanilla Frozen Dairy Dessert bars are shaped like Christmas trees, and they remind me of Dairy Queen’s Dilly Bars, except that they cost a lot less. They are a fun dessert on a December day.

The Christmas tree ice cream bars come six to a box, and they come in either vanilla or mint flavors. My family tends to prefer vanilla, so that’s what I bought. The box opens in a fancy way, displaying all the treat bars individually packaged in starred plastic wrapping.

The bars are decent-sized but not too large.

The bars are 2.87 ounces and come in at 170 calories, 10 grams of saturated fat, 30 grams of sodium, and 11 grams of sugar. You get 4% of your daily value of calcium in one serving.

The box description skirts around calling this dessert ice cream, instead calling it “frozen dairy.” The ingredients are reconstituted skimmed milk, sugar, butter fat, lactose and milk proteins, glucose syrup, water, cream, emulsifier, and stabilizers.

The chocolate coating doesn’t taste as sweet as milk chocolate. The coating is made from vegetable fat, sugar, low fat cocoa powder, and emulsifiers. It tastes more like dark chocolate, but not quite.

If you’re an ice cream snob, this may not be authentic enough for you. If you want the real thing, you’ll have to spend a bit more. But these frozen dairy dessert bars have that winning combination of smooth dairy dessert and crunchy chocolatey shell, and that’s hard to resist. Be sure to have some napkins on hand.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Special Buy (ALDI Find) Sundae Shoppe Gourmet Chocolatey Coated Frozen Dairy Dessert bars come in vanilla or mint flavors and are shaped like Christmas trees. They are reminiscent of Klondike Bars or Dairy Queen’s Dilly Bars. The box stops short of actually calling these bars ice cream, so they may not please true ice cream aficionados, but they’re still a fun treat on a December day.

  1. i purchased a ox of the Christmas tree vanilla ice cream & a box of the Snowman ice cream from Aldi. I took them home & they were devoured right away. I went back to purchase more, and they were
all gone. I spoke with an Aldi employee who stated they were seasonal and they could not get any more, The Christmas tree ice cream was the best ever. Is there any way that I can purchase these myself?

    • The Aldi employee was correct. Once a seasonal or Special Buy item is gone, it’s gone. There’s a chance it may return next year around the same time.

  2. Really sad they didn’t have these this year. They were super yummy.’
