This Week at Aldi: The Ad for August 7, 2019

Each week we highlight a few of the more interesting items in the upcoming Aldi ad. Note that, in our area, the ad takes effect on Wednesday, but in some areas it may take effect as early as today, Sunday.

This week’s theme is additional back-to-school supplies including tech, pet supplies, canning supplies, home organization aids, and food for the school lunch bags.

The Most Interesting Thing We Saw:

• Medion 64GB MicroSD Card or Flash Drive, $12.99 each. Both are made by Medion, a German-based subsidiary of Chinese electronics company Lenovo.
  • The Medion 64GB MicroSD Card, which comes with an SD card adapter, is a class U3 V30 card. The average Aldi shopper may not know what that means, but the short version is that, on paper, this is a good card for high definition (1080p) images and video. It’s got a nice transfer speed and enough storage space for a lot of media. If you’re using 4K video or 8K video you might consider a V60 card, but for most users this one will do the job. The price is pretty competitive compared to other cards in this speed and size class, and probably less than most brick-and-mortar stores.
  • The Medion 64GB Flash Drive is a USB 3.0 card, with backward compatibility with USB 2.0. Those are good specs for the average user who needs to store large files or media. This price is competitive enough, although you might find cheaper ones with the same specs online.

• Dancing Flame Rose, see price in store. 750 mL, from Chile. Aldi states: “Vibrant and crisp with white peach and floral aromas that lead into juicy flavors of strawberry and cherry and a long well-balanced finish. Pairs well with seafood, Asian cuisine, light salads or simply on its own.”
• Orizonti Pino Grigio Cans, see price in store. Contains four 250-mL cans, from Italy. Aldi states: “A floral aroma with notes of apple lead to an elegant pallet for bright lemon, pear, and a touch of mineral. Ideal on its own or enjoy with poached salmon, roasted chicken, pork, pasta with cream sauce, fruit salads or mild cheeses.”
