Trader Joe’s, Aldi’s cousin store, goes all out for fall and Halloween, offering a range of products from pumpkin cookies to pumpkin cereal to pumpkin tea. One item that looked too fun to ignore was the box of Trader Joe’s Halloween Joe Joe’s Cookies.

Trader Joe's Halloween Joe Joe's Cookies

These cookies sold for $2.99 for a 16-oz. box at the time of publication. The box describes them as “chocolate pumpkin faced cookies with our signature vanilla bean cream” and says they’re naturally flavored.

One serving consists of two cookies (28 grams), with 16 servings per box. One serving nets you 140 calories (with 50 calories from fat), 6 grams of total fat (9% of your daily value), 2 grams of saturated fat (10% DV), 0 mg of cholesterol, 80 mg of sodium (3% DV), 20 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), 12 grams of sugars, and 1 gram of protein.

Vanilla bean seeds is the last item on the ingredient list, behind other items such as natural vanilla flavor and natural chocolate flavor.

The cookies contain wheat and soy, and they may contain traces of peanuts. They have a symbol on the front of the box denoting they are certified kosher.

These are good, with rich chocolate outer cookies and a smooth vanilla filling. They’re almost like Oreos, but not quite. The whimsical pumpkin faces are cute, and the cookies are a good treat in a lunch box or a nice addition to a snack table for a Halloween party. At 70 calories per small-ish cookie, though, you don’t want to indulge too much in these because the calories add up quickly.

I did have to jettison the box the cookies came in because there was no way to seal the package to keep the cookies fresh after opening. Instead I put the cookies in a reusable plastic container.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Halloween Joe Joe’s Cookies will get you in the Halloween spirit with orange-colored vanilla frosting sandwiched between two rich chocolate cookies with jack-o-lantern cut-out faces. Just don’t eat too many of them at once because you might find the calorie and sugar counts to be scary.
