I’m almost never disappointed when I try beauty or personal care products from Trader Joe’s. TJ’s, which is a cousin to Aldi, sells more than just food. They also have a good-sized aisle full of beauty items, including shampoo and conditioner, 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner, eye cream, sunscreen, hair masks, and more.

During a TJ’s run not long ago, I found some shaving cream and was excited to try it.

Trader Joe's Moisturizing Cream Shave

Trader Joe’s Moisturizing Cream Shave has a honey mango fragrance and costs $3.99 for an 8-fluid-ounce tube at the time of publication. That makes this about 50 cents per ounce. Traditional Skintimate brand spray shaving creams from Walmart are about 43 cents per ounce for a twin pack at the time of writing, while Equate brand spray shave gel is about 28 cents per ounce at Walmart. However, a shave cream with similar consistency to this TJ’s cream that doesn’t come in a spray can costs about $1.20 per ounce for the Skintimate brand at Walmart, and it’s about $1 per ounce for the CREMO brand at Walmart. That means that if you’re looking for an actual shaving cream and not a spray shaving gel, the Trader Joe’s cream shave is a pretty good deal.

The Trader Joe’s cream shave tube indicates this cream is cruelty free, paraben free, and 100% vegetarian. It contains aloe vera and vitamin E, and the tube says that both men and women can use it.

The tube states:

This unique blend of lubricating emollients maximizes absorption of water, lifting and softening unwanted hair for effortless razor glide and reducing the risk of nicks, cuts and irritation. Enriched with pure aloe vera, nourishing vitamin E and botanical skin conditioners that help deliver a smooth and soothing shave with lasting comfort.

The directions state that “for unequaled shaving ease,” rinse the skin thoroughly with warm water, leaving it wet for a few minutes. Using a small amount of cream shave, apply a thin, transparent layer over damp skin. Shave normally, rinsing the razor frequently.

This has a creamy consistency similar to hair conditioner, so it’s not like traditional foam spray shaving creams you find in other stores. It goes on smooth and slightly transparent, and it leaves skin feeling soft after shaving and rinsing. It also has a nice mild sweet scent that smells good but isn’t overpowering. I like how this feels, and it makes a good base for shaving legs. I’d happily buy this again at Trader Joe’s.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Moisturizing Cream Shave features a mild honey mango scent and contains aloe vera and vitamin E. It is cruelty free and paraben free, and both men and women can use it. It has a consistency similar to hair conditioner and feels luxurious going onto the skin. If you’re looking for a shaving cream that’s a little different — and one that smells good without being too strong — this is worth a look.
