Trader Joe’s: This Walks Into A Bar Cereal Bars

I find breakfast to be an important meal. It’s how I start my day, and I find that if I don’t start the day with some food, my body doesn’t respond quite the same. At the same time, my stomach isn’t always ready for heavy foods early in the morning, so I like to keep things simple, usually with something like cereal.

Trader Joe’s, Aldi’s distant cousin, sells plenty of breakfast items, including cereals. Among the breakfast fare are cereal bars, under the decidedly Trader Joe’s-style name “this _________ walks into a bar.” We’ve previously looked at one of the seasonal versions, Trader Joe’s This Pumpkin Walks Into a Bar Cereal Bars. Here, though, we’re going to look over some of the everyday versions.

Keep in mind that all of these are $1.99 a box and come with 6 bars each. Also keep in mind that all of them contain soy, milk, and wheat, and all of them contain organic wheat and oats.

Trader Joe’s “This Apple Walks Into a Bar”

These are pretty good. They remind me some of an apple pastry, but softer. The apple flavor is sweet and there’s a little cinnamon in there, too.

Trader Joe’s “This Strawberry Walks Into a Bar”

These are also sweet, and just a little tart, like you’d expect strawberry to be. It’s maybe a little less sweet than, say, apple, but we didn’t think that was a negative.

Trader Joe’s “This Blueberry Walks Into a Bar”

Blueberry was a popular option in our house, and these were some of the first to disappear. They’re sweet, like apple and strawberry, but also a little distinct, too.

Trader Joe’s “This Fig Walks Into a Bar”

I wondered if this would taste like a Fig Newton. It does have that fig taste, including the little seeds, but it’s softer, and the breading is a little different compared to the firmer stuff you get with a traditional fig bar. This flavor was probably the least popular in our home, although I personally liked them.

The Verdict:

All of the TJ’s cereal bars grade out well with us. Our family seemed to gravitate toward blueberry, but they’re all worth trying out. I did note, though, that all of them have a pretty high sugar content, so be mindful if you’re trying to watch your sugar intake.
