EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold these lens cleaning wipes again in March of 2022 under the Visage private label, and they cost $3.99 for a box of 100.

Aldi maintains a good selection of cleaning products, including cleaning wipes. That’s all fine and good, but traditional disinfectant wipes aren’t ideal for some things. Traditional wipes, for example, are a risky thing to use on technology, as they can damage screens and potentially get liquid inside the devices.

But cell phones still get dirty. So do computer screens. To clean them, you need a special wipe that will clean without scratching or shorting things out. Many vendors sell them … and, every once in a while, Aldi does, too.

Welby Pre-Moistened Lens Cleaning Wipes

Welby Pre-Moistened Lens Cleaning Wipes are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Once they’re gone, you can’t get them again until they come back in stores, whenever that is. They run $3.69 for a box of 100 wipes, or about 3.6 cents a wipe. With the going rate on Amazon being 6 to 8 cents a wipe, these are a nice deal.

The box indicates that these are a product of Turkey, and they come with various warnings about flammability, keeping them away from children, and how you shouldn’t flush them down the toilet. These are not for use on contact lenses. The box also indicates that the ingredients include water, ethanol, and fragrance.

The wipes come individually wrapped. I appreciate this, since I’ve had wipes before that come in giant containers that eventually dry out. These are less likely to have that problem.

The box comes with a few instructions, including a reminder to remove harmful surface grit before using the wipes, presumably to prevent scratching and other damage. Once you’ve done that, you can use these wipes by opening the packet and unfolding the cloth.

I tried these on glasses as well as a cell phone and phone case. They’re not huge, but they’re suitably large for things like that, or something a little larger like a laptop screen. I even used one on a 40″ television and felt like it worked adequately enough, if not necessarily giving a deep clean.

Beyond that, the wipes work well. They did a good job cleaning my things without streaking. My glasses came out clean, as did my phone screen and its case. In other words, they perform as advertised.

The Verdict:

If you can find them, Welby Pre-Moistened Lens Cleaning Wipes are a reliable product to have for glasses, cell phones, and other items where a regular wipe won’t do. And at 3.6 cents a wipe, the price isn’t bad, either.

  1. Thank you for the info. I have a very strong, very expensive prescription, so I have to be extra careful not to scratch my lenses. I’ve been using the Zeiss 100 count box from WalMart that runs about $5-6. They work well, but if I can save a few bucks on something I now know will be safe, I’ll be sure to look for them the next time I go to Aldi.

  2. Dissapointed in this product Welty lens cleaner it ruin my eyeglasses and spend again for new glasses
