After some routine bloodwork as part of my annual checkup, my doctor recommended that I take a vitamin D supplement or a multivitamin that contains vitamin D. While I’m not deficient in vitamin D, I’m like a lot of Americans who have lower levels of this vitamin that is important especially for bone health. Sometimes called the sunshine vitamin because our bodies absorb vitamin D through sun exposure, vitamin D is also found in certain foods such as fortified milk or cereal, in fatty fish such as salmon, and in nuts, eggs, cheese, mushrooms, and cod liver oil.

Anyone can be at risk for low levels of vitamin D if you spend a lot of time indoors, don’t eat enough foods containing vitamin D, have darker skin, or have certain conditions such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, kidney or liver disease, or obesity.

It seems like a simple solution to treat low vitamin D levels would be to spend more time outdoors, but then skin cancer due to sun exposure becomes a concern. Therefore, many people seek out vitamin D through diet and supplements.

You can find vitamin D supplements at any grocery store or pharmacy. I also happened to find some at Aldi. The discount grocer carries a selection of assorted gummy supplements, including adult and children’s multivitamin gummies, elderberry gummies, apple cider vinegar gummies, melatonin gummies, vitamin C gummies, and more.

These gummies are all sold under the Welby brand, which is not a company. Instead, Welby is the private label Aldi uses for assorted healthcare products. Other Welby products at Aldi include pain relief, allergy relief, arm and wrist blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and pulse oximeters.

Welby Vitamin D3 Gummies

Welby Vitamin D3 Gummies cost $7.35 at the time of publication for a bottle that contains 164 gummies. Two gummies make one serving, so one bottle contains 82 servings. That comes out to about 9 cents per serving.

For comparison, name brand Nature Made vitamin D3 gummies cost about 22 cents per serving at Walmart at the time of writing, and vitafusion vitamin D3 gummies cost about 16 cents per serving at Walmart.

That makes the Aldi vitamin D3 a good deal if you’re specifically looking for vitamin D in a gummy form. However, you can find vitamin D slightly cheaper if you go with a pill form. I found some name brand Nature Made vitamin D3 soft gel supplements with the identical dosage (2,000 IU per day) for about 7 cents per serving at Walmart at the time of writing.

These Aldi vitamin D3 gummies are a Regular Buy, so they should be available at Aldi any time of year.

The bottle states these gummies are good for “bone and immune support” and that they support the immune system, bone and teeth health, and calcium absorption.

They contain 50 mcg or 2,000 IU (international units) per serving. The Mayo Clinic recommends that adults get at least the recommended daily amount of 600 IU of vitamin D, but 1,000 to 2,000 IU per day from a supplement is usually safe and is likely to help people boost their vitamin D level in their blood. That means the Aldi vitamin D3 gummies appear to contain a good amount of vitamin D if you’re seeking to increase your levels.

For comparison, the Welby adult gummy multivitamins at Aldi contain 25 mcg of vitamin D3 per serving, so you’re getting twice the amount with these Vitamin D3 supplements.

The one caveat about any gummy supplement is that these do contain added sugar, and quite a bit of it considering you’re only eating two small gummies per day. These particular gummies contain 4 grams of added sugars, or 8% of your daily limit of added sugar.

Ingredients are glucose syrup, sugar, water, pectin, citric acid, black carrot concentrate, trisodium citrate, natural strawberry and mixed berry flavors, chlorophyll, natural peach flavor, paprika extract, and carnauba wax.

The bottle states these do not contain soy, wheat, gluten, milk, egg, fish, or crustacean shellfish.

A two-gummy serving has 15 calories, 4 grams of total carbohydrates (<2% DV), 4 grams of added sugars (8% DV), 50 mcg of vitamin D (as cholecalciferol) (2000 IU), and 5 mg of sodium (<2% DV).

The bottle indicates adults can chew two of these gummies per day as a dietary supplement or as directed by a certified health care professional. Chew thoroughly before swallowing. Take only as directed and do not exceed suggested dosage. If you have a medical condition, are on medication, or are pregnant or nursing, seek the advice of a qualified health care professional before using.

Do not expose these to excessive heat or moisture. Colors will darken over time, but this does not alter the potency of the product. Keep out of reach of children.

I have spotted stickers on the vitamin and supplement cases in Aldi that state the gummies are from a vendor called Vita Warehouse based in New York. These appear to be produced by VitaGlobe, a manufacturer of health and beauty products. These were produced in a Good Manufacturing Practices facility.

These are some of the best-tasting gummies out of all the gummy supplements I’ve tried from Aldi. They have good fruity flavors and don’t leave any kind of vitamin-like aftertaste. They also don’t noticeably stick to your teeth too badly. My family enjoys just about all of the Aldi gummy supplements and multivitamins we’ve tried so far (with the exception of the apple cider vinegar gummies, which aren’t bad but are definitely not anyone’s favorite in terms of taste).

My only concern with these is the fact that they contain added sugar, so for that reason, I might shop around some and look at traditional vitamin D supplements from my regular grocery store’s pharmacy. However, these will definitely give me the vitamin D I need, so I don’t have a major problem buying them. I might even alternate between gummies and regular pill form supplements as a compromise.

The Verdict:

Welby Vitamin D3 Gummies contain 50 mcg or 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per two-gummy serving. They’re within the range of what the Mayo Clinic says is a generally safe dose if you’re an adult looking to boost your vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D is an essential part of bone health, and many people have lower levels, especially if you spend a lot of time indoors, don’t eat a lot of foods that are fortified with vitamin D, or have certain health conditions.

These Aldi vitamin D3 gummies are cheaper than name brand gummies, although you can probably find slightly cheaper soft gels or pill form vitamin D supplements at a pharmacy or grocery store. It depends on whether you prefer pills or gummies, but do be aware that the gummies contain some added sugar. Otherwise, these are worth a look if you’re trying to increase your vitamin D.

  1. Great write-up Rachael! I just started taking the Welty brand vitamin D3 gummies – even though I’ve never tried – and have always been a bit skeptical of -vitamins disguised as candy.

But they’re absolutely DELICIOUS! And they seem to be providing the necessary dosage of vitamin D as I’m generally pretty grouchy during the Winter months & I’ve never felt better. Yeah…the sugar content is a bit higher than I’d like but at least these things are fun to eat!
