Our Review Process
Aldi Reviewer is — as the name suggests — first and foremost about product reviews. We created this site because, as Aldi shoppers ourselves, we struggled to find comprehensive reviews of Aldi products. We aimed to fix that problem by providing a repository of hands-on experiences with Aldi products.
We place the highest value on the trust of our readers. We want them to know that when they come here they will find content that is honest and authentic. To that end, here are our core values regarding product reviews.
We pay out pocket for every product we review. No one gives us products. Not Aldi, not Trader Joe’s, not suppliers. Nobody. In addition, no one affiliated with Aldi or Trader Joe’s compensates us for our products. That means we’re not beholden to anyone regarding our opinions. Instead, we pay the bills through sources that are unrelated to and unaffected by our opinion: third party display ads and affiliate links.
We spend time with the products we review. For us, product reviews are a long game. When we buy a product, we tend to keep it around and use it, like normal people do. That means we can talk about not just initial impressions, but long-term results. We can, and often do, update our reviews with one-year, two-year, or longer progress reports, letting customers know how a product has fared over time. We also report back when we have to use a warranty service on an Aldi product, or if a product goes bad prematurely.
We have experience with the kinds of products we review. We’re fortunate to have a group of authors with a wide range of expertise on various products. One of our authors, for instance, has decades of experiences working with home appliances. Another has been working with technology since childhood. Still another is an expert on articulating dolls. Frankly, if we don’t have familiarity with a specific kind of product, we tend to stay away from reviewing it.
We tell you what we think. We do like Aldi and Trader Joe’s as stores, but we’re not a fansite. We’re a review site. If we like a product, we’ll tell you. If we don’t, we’ll tell you that. And we also maintain comments sections where shoppers can, and often do, offer their opinions, which may or may not be the same as ours. In short, each review post is our best attempt to help you make an informed decision about whether to pick up a product.
