Aldi Recalls La Fiesta Cinnamon Ground Sold at Select Stores in Arizona and California
Aldi announced on March 13th, 2024, that it is recalling La Fiesta Cinnamon Ground in cooperation with La Fiesta Food Products Inc. The cinnamon may have heavy lead contamination.
The cinnamon was sold in a 0.87-ounce bag with a UPC of 32327000449 and a lot number of 25033. It was sold at select Aldi stores in Arizona and California.
According to the FDA, La Fiesta Food Products learned about the problem after the FDA collected product samples and lab analysis revealed elevated concentrations of lead. This was part of a larger survey the FDA has undertaken to test for lead in cinnamon products sold at discount stores.
The FDA states that protracted exposure to lead can cause permanent central nervous system damage in children, resulting in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other health issues. Long-term lead exposure can lead to kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure, and neurocognitive problems in adults.
Aldi says that any customers who are impacted by this recall or who would like more information can call 408-326-0487 or email qualityassurance@lffp.com Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. PST.
