Aldi and Trader Joe’s Part of Major Frozen Waffle Recall Over Listeria Risk

On October 18, 2024, TreeHouse Foods announced that it was recalling certain frozen waffles over concerns they may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause illness and can even be fatal to at-risk populations such as the elderly, young children, and immunocompromised people. TreeHouse Foods is a multinational food processing company that specializes in private label house brands for grocers.

On October 22nd, 2024, TreeHouse Foods expanded the recall after additional testing at one facility to include all products manufactured at that facility that are still within their shelf life.

According to the press release, “[t]here have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products to date. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.” In addition, it states that “[t]his issue was discovered through routine testing at the manufacturing facility.”

The release notes that the recall is being carried out with the knowledge of both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The waffle recall affects a number of grocers and other sellers of frozen waffles, including Walmart, Target, Harris Teeter, Publix, Food Lion, Schnucks, and Dollar General.

Aldi is among the grocers involved in the recall, and the recall affects both Regular Buys and Aldi Finds. Here is a list of the specific Aldi products affected, including UPC codes, lot codes, and best by date:
