Trader Joe’s announced on February 7th, 2024, that it is recalling four products because the cotija cheese they contain is potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled products are:
- Trader Joe’s Chicken Enchiladas Verde (sku 58292)
- Trader Joe’s Cilantro Salad Dressing (sku 36420)
- Trader Joe’s Elote Chopped Salad Kit (sku 74768)
- Trader Joe’s Southwest Salad (sku 56077)
The Trader Joe’s recall is related to an FDA recall of Rizo-López Foods, Inc. dairy items that were included in various foods from multiple retail brands. The cheese used in these foods is potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The FDA states that Listeria monocytogenes is “an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
