Hands-On: Range Master BBQ Roasting Pan + BBQ Frying Pan

Warm weather means grilling season, which means getting to cook everything under the sun out under the sun. I always look forward to ideal grilling days, because grilled foods are a favorite of mine. The journey is as much fun as the destination: tending to the grill is, for many people (myself included), something of a meditative experience.

Each item on a grill carries with it a unique set of challenges. Different meats, for instance, call for different heats — some you sear, some you cook low and slow, and some you do some of each. Some meats are best if you don’t overcook, while other meats are best with a higher internal temperature.

Vegetables carry their own set of challenges. Aside from trying to heat them to the right texture, there’s also the simple fact that some veggies just don’t play nice with the grill surface. Anyone who has grilled for any length of time has had to contend with things falling through the grill bars.

Fortunately, there are tools for that problem. Aldi even sometimes sells them. One is the Range Master Roasting Pan…

… while the other is the Range Master Frying Pan.

Range Master Roasting Pan (Frying Pan)

Both of these are Aldi Finds. You can only find them in stores for a short time, and once they’re sold out, you won’t be able to find them again until they come back, whenever that might be. You also can’t order these online if they’re sold out at your nearby store.

At the time of this post, both retailed for $9.99. They are sold separately. I couldn’t find anything online that was as low as that price for either item.

The roasting pan measures 15.3 inches wide and 11.3 inches deep. The frying pan measures 11.8 inches in diameter and 1.7 inches tall. Both of them are made of carbon steel with a pre-seasoned finish, are safe to use with metal utensils, and are heat resistant up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Neither of them comes with a warranty.

Both of them feel substantial. They’re on the heavy side, which would seem to indicate that they’re built for some work.

While I was interested in both, I took a harder look at the roasting pan, as I’ve been looking for something with handles that might be ideal for vegetable grilling. This roasting pan definitely checks those boxes.

Range Master Roasting Pan

This is a pretty big roasting pan, which is good or bad depending on your situation. I have a moderately sized 3-burner grill and this pan dominated the space, enough that it would be difficult to cook much else at the same time. By contrast, I have a smaller grill topper that I use that lets me cook veggies while cooking steaks, chicken, or burgers on one side.

Closing Thoughts:

Both the Range Master BBQ Roasting Pan and the Range Master BBQ Frying Pan are intriguing options for outdoor grilling. They both appear to have decent build quality, albeit without a warranty. Keep your grilling space in mind, though, as the roasting pan especially can take up a lot of space on a small- or medium-sized grill. Also bear in mind that they’re good for up to 450 degrees, so these are not made for, say, high heat with the lid closed.
