Mama Cozzi’s Detroit Style Pan Pizza

Detroit style pizza is rectangular and is baked in a pan with high sides. It has a thick, chewy crust, and the edges get deliciously well done during baking. It was first baked in rectangular steel pans from automotive suppliers … because we are talking about Detroit, after all.

If you want to try Detroit style pizza, Aldi is selling it this week. It even comes with its own disposable cardboard baking tray.

Mama Cozzi’s Detroit Style Pan Pizza is an Aldi Find, which means it’s in stores for a short time only. Each store should receive one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store. This was scheduled to be available starting September 10th, 2025. When it’s in stock, you’ll find it in the Aldi Find freezer aisle.

We buy Aldi products with our own funds, and I paid $6.29 for a 23.55-ounce pizza at my local Aldi in 2025. That’s about 27 cents per ounce. One pizza serves five, which comes out to about $1.26 per serving.

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk, soy, and wheat.

One pizza has five servings. One serving has 340 calories, 14 grams of total fat (18% DV), 5 grams of saturated fat (25% DV), 830 mg of sodium (36% DV), 27 grams of total carbohydrates (13% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 3 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (2% DV), and 15 grams of protein.

The box has directions for baking this in the oven. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Remove the pizza from the box and from the plastic wrapper, but keep the pizza in the included tray. Place the pizza in the oven. The tray should be 6-8 inches from the bottom of the oven and not touching the walls or door. For best results, bake only one pizza at a time. Bake for 20-22 minutes. Once cheese is melted, remove the pizza from the oven. Let the pizza stand for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

This pizza came out great. The edges were nicely browned and crisped after about 20 minutes in the oven.

This pizza is similar to another pan pizza Aldi used to occasionally sell as a limited-time Aldi Find, but I haven’t seen that particular pizza in a while now. This current pan pizza seems less greasy, with a slightly less flavorful crust, than the old pan pizza. It’s still good, though.

Pan pizza with Caesar salad, all from Aldi.

This made for a tasty dinner served alongside a bagged salad kit from Aldi. If you’re a pizza fan, this one is well worth trying.

The Verdict:

Mama Cozzi’s Detroit Style Pan Pizza features a pepperoni pizza with plenty of cheese that bakes in its own special cardboard tray in your oven. It comes out crispy, chewy, and delicious. Recommended.

  1. I have bought and prepared this pizza before. It’s a good pizza but it is definitely not the same as Detroit style because the metal baking pan does make a difference. That expectation aside it’s a decent pizza. Try it with Trader Joe’s sweet potato fries!

I did pull the entire pizza out of the tray and put any toppings that were on the bottom on top of the pizza.

  2. As a pizza lover, I was not impressed with this pizza from Aldi. In my opinion it doesn’t compare to the name brand frozen Detroit style pizzas. For the amount of thick crust, the toppings were lacking, especially the amount of sauce. Taste was OK.
