Bremer Chicken Taco Bake
I’m pretty much sold on anything that has to do with tacos. Tacos are customizable and delicious no matter how they’re served. Aldi sells plenty of taco fixings, from shells and tortillas to salsa and sour cream. They also rotate various taco products and taco-inspired foods into stores as limited-time specials. I’ve seen everything from mini tacos to street tacos.
Most recently, Aldi stealth released a chicken taco bake. The package describes this as “rice with white meat chicken, red bell peppers, corn, and black beans in a cheesy jalapeno sauce.”
The Bremer Chicken Taco Bake is an Aldi Find that is only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after it sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back at some future time. Aldi doesn’t offer online ordering for products that are out of stock at your local store. When this is in stock, you’ll find it in the Aldi Find freezer aisle.
This cost $5.79 for a 21-ounce bag at the time of publication. That’s about 28 cents per ounce. With four 1-cup servings per package, that comes out to about $1.45 per serving.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk.
This has a lengthy ingredients list that includes some processed ingredients. One 1-cup serving has 150 calories, 4 grams of total fat (5% DV), 2 grams of saturated fat (10% DV), 480 mg of sodium (20% DV), 19 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 1 gram of total sugars, no added sugars, and 8 grams of protein.
The package has directions for baking this in a conventional oven. There are no microwave directions, and the oven method takes at least 50 minutes, so this isn’t a meal that will be ready in a hurry.
To bake in the oven, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Pour the frozen contents of the bag into a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Stir and replace the foil. Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees.
While this does take a while to bake, it’s pretty easy to make. Simply dump the contents into a baking dish (no real need to spray with nonstick cooking spray beforehand), cover with foil, and pop it in the oven.
This smelled appetizing as it baked, and it came out as expected. It’s mostly rice, with a scattering of cubed chicken along with beans, corn, and bell peppers. It included chunks of frozen nacho cheese sauce that melted as it all baked. This has a mild to lower-medium spiciness level, and we really liked it. We made a lunch out of this, but it would also be a good side dish to any Mexican-style dinner such as tacos or nachos.
The Verdict:
The Bremer Chicken Taco Bake features rice with corn, black beans, and bell peppers in a nacho cheese sauce. We thought this tasted good, and it’s mild to medium spicy. It’s sold frozen, and you dump the contents into a baking dish and bake for almost an hour, so be sure to allow for some baking time when you want to serve this.
