Casa Mamita Mini Tacos

The Casa Mamita brand from Aldi makes regular appearances in my kitchen. Whether I’m using their crunchy taco shells for a taco night, or I’m putting out our favorite salsa or salsa con queso for a nacho night, this brand is always a winner in my house.

In addition to staples like those mentioned above, Aldi rotates many Casa Mamita products into stores as limited-time specials. Through the years, I’ve seen enchiladas, tostadas, churros, Mexican street corn ravioli, street corn dipper chips, taco kits, and more.

One of the most recent Casa Mamita products to show up in the Aldi Find freezer aisle is mini tacos. My family enjoys mini tacos as a quick and easy convenience food, especially if the kids are looking for something to heat quickly in the air fryer, and we’re familiar with the Trader Joe’s brand mini tacos. We also have ordered mini tacos at food truck events.

These Aldi mini tacos come in two flavors: southwest veggie and chicken. I bought a bag of each to try.

Casa Mamita Mini Tacos

Casa Mamita Mini Tacos are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back later, whenever that might be. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.

These cost $5.99 for a 17.5-ounce package at the time of publication. That’s about 34 cents per ounce. Walmart was selling Jose Ole Beef & Cheese Mini Tacos for about 40 cents per ounce at the time of publication, so the Aldi mini tacos look like a good deal in terms of price.

If you’re looking out for allergens, both mini taco flavors contain milk and soy.

The packages have directions for air frying these (the recommended method) or baking them in a conventional oven. Either way, you cook these from frozen.

To air fry, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees. Place the desired number of tacos onto the fry rack in a single layer. Air fry for 6-8 minutes, flipping tacos halfway through. Allow tacos to rest for 1 minute, then enjoy.

To bake, preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place desired number of tacos on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Allow tacos to rest for 1 minute, then enjoy.

I air fried our mini tacos, and they came out crispy in about 7 minutes.

My family felt like both mini taco flavors are pretty similar. The filling is paste-like (the tacos in real life don’t look like the tacos on the packages) but savory and flavorful, and the shells crisped up nicely in the air fryer. We like to dip these in salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or salsa con queso for extra flavor.

The package states these feature “yellow corn, black beans, bell peppers, Monterey jack cheese & sweet chipotle sauce fried in a crunchy corn tortilla.”

The ingredients list looks pretty good, with lots of whole, easily recognizable ingredients. These southwest veggie mini tacos contain corn tortillas (water, corn treated with hydrated lime, salt), sauce (red chili puree [water, guajillo chilies], chipotle puree [chipotle peppers, water, tomato paste, distilled white vinegar, onions, sugar, salt, canola oil, spices], garlic powder), vegetable oil, chipotles in adobo (chipotle peppers, vinegar, tomatoes, onions, sugar, salt, paprika, soybean oil, spices), black beans, jack cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes), and onion powder.

These do have some calories, a bit of fat, and some carbs, but they don’t seem like the worst frozen meal. This mini taco flavor also seems lighter on sodium considering it’s a frozen convenience food. One 4-taco serving has 210 calories, 11 grams of total fat (14% DV), 2 grams of saturated fat (10% DV), 200 mg of sodium (9% DV), 25 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), 4 grams of dietary fiber (14% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, no added sugars, and 4 grams of protein.

Casa Mamita Chicken Mini Tacos:

The package states these feature “tender white meat chicken, Monterey jack cheese, and green tomatillo salsa fried in a crunchy corn tortilla.”

The ingredients list for these also looks fairly wholesome for a frozen meal. The chicken mini tacos contain corn tortilla (water, corn treated with hydrated lime, salt), filling (salsa [tomatillos, jalapenos, water, soybean oil, green bell peppers, sugar, onion powder, salt, garlic powder, ground cumin seed]), fully cooked chicken [chicken breast with rib meat, water], Monterey jack cheese [pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes], and soybean oil.

Like their southwest veggie mini taco siblings, these have some calories, fat, and some carbs. These have more than double the sodium of the southwest veggie mini tacos. One 4-taco serving has 200 calories, 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (13% DV), 470 mg of sodium (20% DV), 22 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 3 grams of dietary fiber (11% DV), 5 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (4% DV), and 7 grams of protein.

The Verdict:

Casa Mamita Mini Tacos come in southwest veggie or chicken flavors. We like these mini tacos, and they’re as good as other brands we’ve tried or as good as what we’ve gotten from food trucks. There’s not a huge difference in flavor between the two varieties, and they’re not really spicy. They crisp up nicely during cooking, especially if you cook them in an air fryer. We appreciate that these contain mostly whole, easily recognizable ingredients such as tortillas, beans, salsa, cheese, and chicken. They’re fine to eat on their own, or they’re great dipped in salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or queso.
