Casa Mamita Chipotle Lime Salsa

Last Updated on May 24, 2017

Our experience with Aldi salsas has been a mixed bag. Some of their garden salsas can be quite good, while others are not. In some cases, Aldi has tweaked a specific salsa with a new formula that is not as good, while in other cases their formula — such as their standard chunky salsa — seems to have more or less stayed stable.

This salsa is one of their Regular Buy varieties. And it didn’t do it for us.

The full name of this salsa is “Casa Mamita Chipotle Lime Salsa – Zesty and Smoky.” Oh, and it’s also “organic salsa” — every ingredient is listed as organic except sea salt. On paper, the ingredients should be a recipe for success. It’s got your usual suspects, including (organic) tomatoes, (organic) garlic, (organic) cilantro, and, of course, (organic) lime juice, all wrapped in a medium heat.

And yet somehow it doesn’t come together. It tastes … odd. In our view, the lime overwhelms much of the other flavors, and it has some other flavors in there that we can’t quite place but just don’t quite come together the way we anticipated. Some of the lesser powders and peppers toward the end of the ingredients list may be to blame, but regardless, the end result just wasn’t inspired.

Now, everyone has different food tastes, so there’s always a possibility that what we find forgettable someone else might find memorable. Someone with more exotic tastes might like this. But if your salsa tastes are conventional, try this at your own risk.

The Verdict:

Casa Mamita Cilantro Lime Salsa is heavy on lime and other flavors, and lighter on the things we love best about salsa. Perhaps some people might find this particular assembly of flavors worthwhile, but it didn’t quite do it for us. On the upside, it’s all organic!

  1. I disagree. It was fabulous. So much more flavor than the run of the mill salsa.

  2. Joshura,
Thanks, I appreciate that I come under those whom might have exotic tastes. I absolutely loved this salsa and am so pleased that is is also Organic. I searched to fine out won is the manufacturer of this little gem.

I could only find that it was certified organic by the folks in Vermont.

    Respectfully, disagree with your

  3. Verdict.

PS – OK, I am clumsy and hit post by accident; but this is some awesome salsa.

  4. I like the flavor but the consistency is strange, more like chili than salsa. I half expected there to be beans in there (as the texture seems like there might be.)

Good, but I probably won’t buy it again.

  5. I love this salsa. We try a lot of salsas that are just chunks of tomatoes in a watery glop. This one has a great smoky flavor – with the right amount of heat. The zesty lime undertone is a nice contrast. I will buy this again without hesitation.

  6. This is my favorite salsa ever! Just the right amount of smokiness compliment the strong lime flavor really well. I also like the chunkiness of this salsa. Goes really well with Aldi’s lime tortilla chips or the Aldi scoops!

  7. This is the BEST salsa ever!! Absolutely love it!

I am so disappointed that Aldi—at least our Aldi—isn’t able to get it/isn’t getting it right now.
