EDITOR’S NOTE: This review is from 2025. Aldi is advertising this spotlight again for the week of April 1st, 2026, for $5.99. See our update at the end of this post about how the light we bought held up over time.

Earlier this spring, a severe thunderstorm knocked out power in many parts of our area. Our own home was without power for 16 hours. Others in the region were in the dark for days. That first night, I remember staring out at the front door, the neighborhood blanketed in darkness in a way only an outage could achieve.

But the darkness was not absolute. Halos of light radiated up from the area around our front sidewalk, an oasis of illumination against the night. The source? A handful of solar disc lights we’d previously purchased from Aldi.

Solar lights are nifty like that, and not just because they work even when the electricity doesn’t. They’re also quite convenient, for the obvious reason that they don’t require being plugged in. The sun does all the work.

So when we saw that Aldi was selling a solar spotlight, I decided to try it out.

The CASALUX Solar Plastic Spotlight is an Aldi Find. You can only find it in stores for a limited time, and once it’s gone, you won’t be able to get it again until it comes back, whenever that may be. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.

In 2025, the spotlight sold for $4.99 for one. That’s a good price, especially given that you can get just one of them. You can get similar per-unit prices on Amazon, but you have to buy a pack of them to get that price.

The Aldi light is a product of China. The packaging doesn’t indicate who manufactured it. There is no warranty or after-sales support.

The light measures 5.708 inches x 3.425 inches x 13.78 inches. It has one 0.5W LED (3000K) and one rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which charges through sunlight. The light also has an on-off switch.

According to Aldi, it is suitable for outdoor use and is good for 6-8 hours of use when fully charged.

Installation is easy. A stake is nestled into the bottom of the light, and it just needs to be removed and affixed. Then you put the light into the ground, flip the on-off switch below the solar panel, and you’re good to go.

Both the solar panel itself and the light are adjustable, which is useful in optimizing the panel for maximum sunlight and the light for where you want it to shine.

Instead, it feels more like an accent light. You would probably need more of these to create enough illumination to really spotlight something.

The Verdict:

This solar light is inexpensive, easy to install, and adjustable, all of which are pros. You’re not paying for a ton of light, though, so if you’re looking to really spotlight something you’ll probably need more than one.

UPDATE (3/27/2026) — This spotlight stopped working for us after a few months of use, and we couldn’t get it to work again. We ended up having to throw it away.
