Visage Jade Roller with Gua Sha Stone

Over the past few years, skincare has blown up, especially among teens and young adults. Moisturizers, cleansers, toners, and so much more has made its way onto the shelves of big box stores like Target, but more notably in beauty supply stores like Ulta and Sephora, where skincare brands like Drunk Elephant, Bubble, and Glow Recipe thrive. Skincare routines have also become popular on social media, garnering millions of views on YouTube and TikTok.
It was only a matter of time before Aldi hopped on the skincare trend, too. And Aldi has approached it in a different way: gua sha.
Gua sha is an East Asian healing technique, said to improve circulation and reduce toxins and pain. It’s been used in China for more than 2,000 years, but it’s a relatively new concept in America. Gua sha can be used on almost all areas of the body, and it lightly scrapes the skin to break small blood vessels under the surface to reduce tightness. When used on the face, it’s done much more gently, and it has a larger focus on shaping your face and reducing lines.
I’m specifically using gua sha on my neck and face for this review, and that’s where it’s most commonly done at home.
While gua sha has been linked to pain and anxiety relief, and overall it’s considered good for you if done correctly, more research is needed to confirm that skin benefits are directly linked to gua sha.
A gua sha stone generally isn’t too expensive. A traditional stone from Target, Amazon, or Ulta is around $7. Sephora has rose and amethyst stones that go up to $40, but that’s the only place where I’ve seen them that expensive.
The Visage Jade Roller with Gua Sha Stone is an Aldi Find, meaning each store receives one shipment, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, and you won’t be able to order it online from Aldi.
This set includes a stone, a jade roller, and a small pouch to store them in for just $4.99, making it a much better deal than other stores. For comparison, a roller and stone kit from Ulta that looks identical to what you’d get at Aldi is $14.99.
The jade roller and gua sha stone were sold in a mixed case alongside Visage Gel Masks for the same price.
The jade roller is targeted more toward your face, and it is more gentle than gua sha, which is better for people with skin problems like eczema. The jade roller and gua sha tools are more or less interchangeable, and you can find follow-along routines with both of them on YouTube.
Gua sha can be done at any time of day, but it shouldn’t be done multiple times a day, which can be hard on your skin. For about a week, I did it once a day, either right when I woke up, or right before I went to bed. I followed along to the same gua sha face routine on YouTube each day, and it’s a great routine for anyone new to these tools. There are simple tips on the back of the Aldi packaging, but I’d recommend watching someone else do it, since you don’t want to risk damaging your skin.
It’s fairly simple. You wash your stone or roller with warm water and soap, and make sure your face is clean. It’s recommended you put moisturizer or an oil on before use to allow to tools to glide across your skin. You work from the inside of your face outward, and go upwards in all your motions. This includes snatching your jawline, using it around your eyes to prevent crow’s feet, and using it for laugh lines.
Now for the million-dollar question: Does this stuff actually work? I would say yes, and you can find before and after photos online to back this up as well. I noticed a subtle change in my face after doing one side and comparing it to the side I still needed to do. In order to see more permanent and noticeable results, you’d have to use it for a few months, but so far, both the roller and stone have been promising, and if nothing else, it’s incredibly relaxing to do: like a massage for your face.
The Verdict:
The Visage Facial Set has a future as a part of my skincare routine, and I think it could truly help with shaping your face and reducing pain if you use it consistently. These tools are not for everyone, but considering the price and the benefits, this is a product I hope will return to Aldi in the coming years.
