This Week at Aldi: The Ad for July 19, 2017

Last Updated on July 8, 2019

Each week we highlight a few of the more interesting items in the upcoming Aldi ad. Note that, in our area, the ad takes effect on Wednesday, but in some areas it may take effect as early as today, Sunday.

Aldi continues its dorm theme from last week while also adding a generous sprinkling of interesting tech. Let’s look at some of the standouts.

The Most Interesting Thing We Saw:

SOHL Furniture Futon

  • SOHL Furniture Futon, $79.99. We can now check off “futon” from the list of things Aldi has rotated into its stores. A part Aldi’s relatively new SOHL line, this futon measures 67″ x 20″ x 31″. Not sure how comfortable it is … but also not sure you could easily beat that price.

Special Buy (ALDI Finds) Highlights:

Maginon Action Camera

  • Maginon Action Camera, $59.99. If you’re in the market for a GoPro-style action camera but don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars, this is worth a hard look. Last year, Aldi sold an action camera from Bresser; this year, Aldi is selling one from one of its go-to companies, Maginon. Features include 4K video resolution, a 2-inch LCD display, a 170-degree wide-angle lens, and built-in Wi-fi for editing and sharing purposes. It also claims to be waterproof up to 98 feet and includes “multiple accessories.”
  • Bauhn cell phone accessories, including …
    • Bauhn Mini Speaker With Bluetooth Technology, $19.99.
    • Bauhn ProGlass Screen Protector, $6.99. They are only for iPhones 5-7.
    • Bauhn Universal Clip-On Smart Lens, $6.99. Includes wide angle, fish eye, and macro lenses
    • Bauhn Wall Plate or Desktop Charger, $9.99.
  • Medion LED Light Bulb Speaker, $16.99. The product claims you can turn any light socket into a Bluetooth speaker, even controlling the color of the bulb with the included app. We’ve seen some problems with Aldi-related apps and there are comparably priced competitors online, so we’re not sold on this. Yet.
  • Huntington Home Contemporary Canvas Art, $7.99. Aldi is channeling its inner Hobby Lobby with a few options for wall decor, either for the dorm or elsewhere. They come in a 15″x 15″ single pack, or a 15″ x 5.5″ 2-pack.
  • Huntington Home Rugs. You can get a 34″ x 20″ kitchen accent rug for $5.99, a 4′ x 2′ plush or berber rug for $5.99, or a 7′ x 5′ plush or berber area rug for $19.99.
  • Adventuridge Rucksack or Backpack, $12.99. It’s not the school backpack or the foldable backpack or even the premium backpack, but something else. At this rate, we’ll probably have ten different Adventuridge backpacks by Christmas.
  • Auto XS Trunk Organizer With Insulated Cooler, $8.99. We’ve tested it and it’s awesome. If you need something for trunk storage, this is a great option.
  • Easy Home Folding Step Stool, $4.99. We’ve reviewed it and, while it won’t get you into the attic, it is a nice tool for getting a few extra inches.
  • WORKZONE Aluminum Extendable Trolley, $29.99. If you need help rolling stuff into a dorm room, or help moving anything anywhere, Aldi has a trolley under its WORKZONE line. And if you need help lifting furniture, Aldi is also selling a Ready Lifter (good for up to 600 pounds) and a Moving Blanket & Mattress Protector Set (with bag), both for $9.99.

Fresh Meat Special Highlights:

  • Fresh Sweet Bourbon Cedar Plank Atlantic Salmon, $9.99 per pound. This is the second cedar plank salmon we’ve seen from Aldi in the last month.
  • Fresh USDA Choice Family Pack Strip Steak, $6.99 per pound. You can read our take on the single packs of the strip steak right here.
