Aldi Electronics: What is Bauhn?

Aldi’s Special Buy lineup of electronics has grown to the point now where most of the basic items that a person might want — and a few more specialized ones — eventually make an appearance. Laptops, desktops, tablets, cameras, TVs, headphones, and speakers are among the electronics items we’ve seen inside the grocer in the last couple of years. About the only thing we haven’t seen are cell phones (yet).

Aldi contracts its electronics to a few key companies. We’ve previously looked at one of them, Medion. Today we’ll look at Bauhn.

Bauhn

Bauhn is an Australian-based electronics manufacturer. According to its website, they make and distribute “Televisions, Tablet PCs, Blu-Ray Players, Digital Set Top Boxes and Home Theatre Entertainment Systems.” That’s a pretty large lineup, although we haven’t seen all of them at Aldi in the United States. More on that in a moment.

A look at Bauhn’s website — at least at the time of this post — shows a clear Australian focus. The featured products on the site highlight upcoming offerings in Australian Aldi stores, complete with prices in Australian dollars (which, because of exchange rates, will be be higher than what you would expect in U.S. dollars). Bauhn does appear to have a U.S. portion of its website, but as of right now it’s outdated and there isn’t much there that you can’t find on the main page.

So Bauhn is apparently an Australian-based maker of technology that primarily serves the Australian market but has also contributed to Aldi stores in the United States. We’ve noticed that Bauhn’s primary focus in the U.S. seems to be speakers and headphones, with occasional offerings like TVs and some small electronics accessories. Laptops, desktops, and tablets seem to fall more to the German-based Medion.

That’s not the only difference between Bauhn and Medion. Medion, from what we’ve gathered, is a company separate from Aldi, owned by the Chinese megacorporation Lenovo. Bauhn, by all appearances, appears to be actually owned by Aldi — note the copyright information at the bottom of its website.

We haven’t gone hands-on with any Bauhn products yet, but a quick review around the internet has been mixed. Their TVs, for example, have ranged from average to terrible. When you’re talking about a TV that potentially costs several hundred dollars, that is no small consideration. We’ll be keeping an eye on them down the road.

Will not buy ANY ALDI electronic device- especially Bauhn ever again
A barely used ( 4hours max) 50″ TV before it became out of
warranty/failed- cost of TV was 599.00 – good score Aldi
no support offered as “was out of warranty”

    • I live in australia and wouldnt touch a bauhn product with a barge pole, I’ve been stung by three of there products. All in warrenty thankfully.

  2. I bought one to a BAUHU & IT DON’T WORK AT ALL I PAID $25.00 for it the I lost my receipt so I can’t take it back to the store what wast never again

    • Bought two bauhn product both multi port chargers both have stopped working at same time not sure why very disappointing

  3. What operating system do Bauhn HD TVs use and can they be updated as I have two of them and most Android Tv streaming requirement is KitKat can Bauhn run this

  4. Recently bought a Bauhn speaker to replace a Bose that was stolen and wasn’t expecting much, but it actually sounds of similar quality and is quite impressive for something less than 1/4th the price!

  5. I bought a Bauhn TV (can’t remember the size, but I think it was a 36-inch screen) back in 2016. I didn’t use it much at the time, so I gave it to my brother. It’s still going strong in 2021, and my brother has not reported any issues with it whatsoever.

I also bought a Bauhn soundbar for my other TV in 2018, and it’s also still working quite well. However, I do experience a bit of frustration with it, as the sound from the main speakers always seems to be slightly out of phase with the sound from the subwoofer. Sometimes it is not (or only barely) perceptible, but other times it quickly becomes quite obvious – with the resulting lowering of volume from destructive interference of the two different waveforms, and (more obviously) a slight echo in the sound. If I knew how to fix that, then I would be extremely pleased with it, considering that I only spent $129 on it, when I was looking at a lot more for the same product in other brands.

Overall, for the prices I paid for both items, and given that they are still both working years after I bought them (and obviously after they are both past the 1-year warranty period), I give them a thumbs-up.

  6. I bought a 65” Bauhn TV and never had any trouble with it until now. I was advised on the box that this TV a was a smart TV . Now I have signed up for Netflix and as Netflix is not an app on the television I am finding impossible to download an app . The details say go to your remove and press content.. the remote doesn’t have a content button , where do I go from here ?

  7. Just bought a 50″ TV ATV50UHDG-0521. Surprisingly good pictures and compared to our 12 year old previous tv simply astonishing. But I expected something to be wrong with it (we are in Australia – always a problem here with whatever I buy) – and it is :According to the booklet there should be also a way to sort and scan the channels. It is simply not there – even after reboot. I am forced also to use channels I do not want

  8. I have a baulm TV and sound bar. Regret buying both. Never can link together, always re-tuning t v after channels drop out, and now when going into apps, colour disappears and darkened screen barely can see, unwatchable.
Happy to hear how to resolve issues

  9. BRING IT BACK!!!
I did. Bauhn does not respond to e-mails. You have to contact them via a call centre — somewhere in ASIA. They have no rpoduct knowledge – they just transfer your questions to ??? I do not know.
After one month I apcked up and returned it. Money back was no problem. I bought a TLC 55″ for A$700 — what a difference — super TV- I am in Australia

  10. hello

I can receive new h265 air Channels from Iran without any changes
I can play most 4k movies from hdd external
the very God TV but have no HDR

  11. “Not happy Jan” Bauhn 50″ 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR wow sounds so good, but no cigar.
Picture was off from the start but it made it too almost 1 year warranty then total black out no more picture, folks be warned stay right away.

  12. I was shocked to read the complaints from Australia about Aldi products. I have 3 TV’s (Bauhn ) of varying ages .The oldest I purchased to use as a monitor (plenty of use) The others are 65″ and they are 5-6 years old. I have never had any problems with any of them, or any other product that I have purchased from Aldi. Their sound bar is great for the price too. Love their range of groceries…Come on, are we so precious that we really need a choice of 20 different tinned tomatoes, soups, beans, crisps etc.etc?

  13. A neighbor in our mobile home park recently passed away.
While carefully cleaning her house, my mom found a Bauhn Mini Speaker with BlueTooth Technology.
(Never ever used – still sealed in its box).

Just yesterday (Tuesday July 18th of 2023) I dare to open it.
This thing’s 2/3rds thinner than my Insignia Brick and still sounds shockingly good.
Kinda reminds me of that small television speaker sound.
Using it right now as I write this.
And just for added oomph, it’s even hooked up to my Behringer mixer.

  14. seem to be a lot of complaints, may be I’m the lucky one?
Bought my first Bauhn 49 inch TV in about 2009, it still works fine, never had a problem with it, good picture quality.
Bought another Bauhn 55 inch TV in about 2019, great picture quality and works without a problem.
Now considering a Bauhn 75 inch, will I run out of luck?

    • I also bought my first Bauhn tv years ago and used it daily as my monitor. Never a hiccup. Four years ago, I bought two 76″ Bauhn TV’s .Never had a days problem!

  15. We bought a BIG Bauhn tv, which comes up with Samsung, it is awful. To put the volume up or down you have to speak into the remote which is hopeless if you want to go more that one bit up plus the sound is shocking. We have our tv through Foxtel if you dont coordinate both the foxtel and tv getting turned on together you have to go to source and pick the hub it’s on 😡 this tv is shockingly design, I can’t wait to replace it

  16. I’ve got 2 Bauhn products, a 70 in TV and smart watch, both run fine. About 4 days before re charge on the watch, like to be longer. The TV runs pretty much 24×7 , runs very well, it’s got a great picture. Happy me.
