Open Thread: Welby Essential Oils + Welby Ultrasonic Diffuser

In recent years, essential oils have become a large market in the United States and spawned both a number of multi-level marketing (MLM) companies and a host of other imitators. From time to time, Aldi sells both a small range of essential oils as well as a diffuser.

What We Know:

Welby Essential Oils

An Aldi essential oil.

Welby Essential Oils (product code 52483) are an ALDI Find (Special Buy), which means they’re only in stores for a short time. In our experience, these are semi-annual products, meaning that they’re in stores more than once a year. (At the time of this post, they seem to roll around in December and July, but that could change.)

Welby Oils cost $4.99 for a 15-mL essential oil or a 4-ounce sweet almond oil. This is a lot less than what you’d pay to buy them from an MLM, although we’ve seen comparable prices from sellers on Amazon. Aldi sells peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree, and, as mentioned before, sweet almond. Aldi claims that the oils are “derived from 100% all-natural plant sources such as flowers, leaves or roots,” and that they are suitable for diffusers, bath, or shower, or for massage or skin oil.

Welby Ultrasonic Diffuser

The Welby Ultrasonic Diffuser

Aldi sells a couple of diffusers under the Welby label, both of them ALDI Finds. The Welby Ultrasonic Diffuser (product code 52363) costs $14.99, while the Welby Cool Mist Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser costs $18.99. Both are considerably less than other diffusers we’ve seen on Amazon. For our purposes today, we’re looking at the $14.99 model, although we’d love to hear thoughts on either of them in the comments.

The Welby Ultrasonic Diffuser appears to be made by Wachsmuth & Krogmann, a company behind a number of Aldi products in the Ambiano, Welby, WORKZONE, and Easy Home lines. The packaging comes with the diffuser as well as a manual.

It has three mist settings — low, medium, or high — and claims to produce a mist for up to 4 hours on high, 6 hours on medium, and 9 hours on low when filled with water. It has 8 LED light color settings and can either display one color or rotate through all of them. It has a 100-mL capacity (and comes with a plastic measuring cup), and you can add a few drops of essential oil to the diffuser for use.

What We Don’t Know:

Probably the biggest question people may have about both products is: who makes them? While we believe we know who makes the diffuser, it’s not clear who makes the oils. Aldi contracts out with other companies for its private label brands, and we assume the oils are made by a company that makes oils under other labels.

Do you have any experience with Welby essential oils or the Welby diffusers? We’d be interested to know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I purchased the $14.90 Welty Ultrasonic Diffuser and it worked for approx. 5 times before it broke. I would fill the receptacle with the appropriate amount of water and turn the unit on and the fan would turn on, it would beep 3 times and stop. I looked online and read how to troubleshot with cleaning with white vinagre to no avail. Same response. It’s useless. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I love my Welby ultrasonic diffuser and I’m trying to find another one for another room in my house. Where can I find another one?

    • Yours isn’t the same as the one pictured above… That one doesn’t make any beeping noises.

      • Mine beeps with the each press of each of the two buttons on the front. The left button being the light, and the right one being Hi/med/low. It’s EXACTLY as shown in the picture. Just sayin’

  2. Mine worked for less than a year. I have been using essential oils in a diffuser for eight years. I had the same DoTerra diffuser (yes, it was way overpriced but I didn’t know any better) for those eight years. I know how to clean and care for them. The super-cheap direct-from-China usb one I bought worked for a little over a year. I am not getting another one of these from Aldi.

  3. I have not bought the diffuser, but did buy an essential oil at Aldi called Breathe Easy. It combines Ravansara, eucalyptus, lemon peel and peppermint. I really didn’t do much with it until I developed a nasal polyp and truly believe it has helped reduce the inflammation.
