Sundae Shoppe Chocolate Coated Frozen Bananas

A while back, we tried Diana’s Bananas frozen chocolate covered bananas, which are often available during the summer in Aldi stores as limited buys. We enjoyed them. However, they were name-brand with a name-brand price. More recently, Aldi has been selling its own Aldi-branded chocolate covered bananas, and I thought it would be interesting to see how they compared.

Sundae Shoppe Chocolate Coated Frozen Bananas seem to be a Seasonal Item that Aldi carries during the summer months. However, we’ve sometimes spotted them in the winter as a limited-time Aldi Find. Regardless, if these are not currently in stock at your local store, you won’t be able to order them online from Aldi.

These frozen bananas cost $4.49 for a 9.2-ounce box of four servings when we reviewed them in February of 2025.

We previously paid $3.49 for a 10.5-ounce box of five servings when we first reviewed these in 2022. So, this is a product that has seen some shrinkflation. In 2025, these cost around $1.12 per serving, or around 49 cents per ounce.

These are sold in milk chocolate and dark chocolate varieties.

Sundae Shoppe is not a company. Instead, its an Aldi private label that encompasses ice cream and other frozen treats.

The dark chocolate bananas have 140 calories per 65-gram serving, with 5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (8% DV), 21 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 3 grams of dietary fiber (11% DV), and 14 grams of total sugars.

The milk chocolate bananas have 130 calories per 65-gram serving, with 4.5 grams of saturated fat (6% DV), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (8% DV), 22 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), and 13 grams of total sugars.

Both varieties have 6 grams of added sugars (12% DV) per serving.

(These reformulated versions we reviewed in 2025 have less total fat and saturated fat, slightly more carbs, and double the added sugars compared to the ones we covered in 2022. When we first wrote about these in 2022 back when they had five servings per package, each serving was slightly smaller at 60 grams. One serving of either flavor in 2022 had 130 calories, 6 grams of total fat, 3.5 grams of saturated fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates, and 3 grams of added sugars.)

If allergies are a concern, the milk chocolate bananas contain milk, soy, and possibly peanuts. The dark chocolate bananas contain soy, and possibly milk and peanuts.

I’m not a dark chocolate fan, so the milk chocolate ones were my personal favorite. The chocolate was good, and so were the bananas. Everyone in our family usually approves of these desserts, and I don’t think these were any different. I don’t always like how hard the bananas get when frozen, and right out of the freezer these were especially hard, but that isn’t really Aldi’s fault. The package recommends letting these sit at room temperature for a few minutes before you eat them.

As for Diana’s bananas themselves, they are a company that specifically works to create chocolate-covered bananas. Aldi is obviously copying them by creating their own bananas, but it’s entirely possible that the Aldi brand bananas were still made by Diana’s and Aldi simply put its Sundae Shoppe private label name on them.

The Verdict:

Sundae Shoppe Chocolate Coated Frozen Bananas are practically identical to the name-brand Diana’s Bananas. These are a somewhat healthier alternative to other desserts as well.

  1. I went back to Aldi’s to buy more Dark Chocolate coated frozen bananas, but could not find them anywhere in the store, or in the place I found them when I first bought them. When will they be in stock again?

  2. Exactly, I found them once and can’t find them again. They are as good as Diana’s Banana. Typical Aldi’s item. One and done.
