Deutsche Küche Wheat Rolls

EDITOR’S NOTE: This review is from 2024. Aldi is selling what look like practically identical rolls the week of December 17th, 2025. As of 2025, they’re $3.29 for a 15.87-ounce package.

Some wheat rolls under the Deutsche Küche private label showed up in the Aldi Find freezer case at Aldi the other week, and soon I started seeing excited chatter on various Aldi fan social media pages.

People who are German or who have spent time living in Germany talked about how happy they were to see authentic brötchen, which is the German word for “small bread,” like a bun or bread roll, at the discount grocery store. They recommended enjoying these rolls as a snack or for breakfast. You can eat them in a variety of ways: with butter, with meat and cheese, with marmalade, or other spreads.

These are actually imported from Germany. The bag describes these as “Traditional German wheat bread rolls: crunchy crust with a soft center. Germany’s favorite.”

Deutsche Küche Wheat Rolls are an Aldi Find. That means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and they’re gone after that sells out. Aldi does not offer online ordering if these are sold out at your local store.

We buy Aldi products with our own money for review. I paid $3.29 for a 15.4-ounce package in 2024 at my local store.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain wheat. They may also contain sesame and soy.

The full ingredients list consists of wheat flour, water, barley malt flour, salt, yeast, sugar, canola oil, and potassium iodate.

There are nine single-roll servings per package. One roll has 130 calories, 1 gram of total fat (1% DV), no saturated fat, no sodium, 27 grams of total carbohydrates (10% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (5% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, less than 1 gram of added sugars (1% DV), and 4 grams of protein.

The bag instructs to keep these frozen until you’re ready to bake them. When you want to serve them, preheat the oven to 350 degrees (conventional oven) or 300 degrees (convection oven). Remove the desired number of rolls from the bag. Place frozen rolls on the middle rack in the oven. Bake for 9-12 minutes.

The bag states not to microwave these, and not to refreeze these once they’re thawed.

I baked these in my oven, and they came out nice and crisp on the outside, while soft and doughy on the inside. My family ate them as a simple snack with butter, and they were quite good.

The Verdict:

Deutsche Küche Wheat Rolls are an authentic product of Germany. They feature a crunchy crust and a soft center. Eat them with butter, meat and cheese, or however you prefer. If you’re a fan of German products from Aldi, definitely don’t pass by these limited-time baked goods.

  2. Delicious. So happy to finally find a 0 sodium roll. But now they are not available. Aldi should carry these all of the time. There are so many heart and kidney failure people who would be so grateful to have access to these healthy delicious rolls on a regular basis.

  3. I was so excited when I saw a post that my local Aldi had Wheat Rolls (brötchen) in store. I went immediately to get a couple bags. They were wonderful! To my huge disappointment, when I went back tonight to get some more, i learned it was a one time deal. WHY?????. They’ve got to bring them back.

  4. I bought some today. I cant wait to bake them in the morning and make brötchen with salami, gouda, sliced cucumbers and lettuce and of course a few boiled eggs on the side. Wish I had a real german fanta now.

  5. I was over excited to find the Broetchen at Aldis. Yes, Aldi should carry this product year around. The wheat broetchen are something to look forward to in the morning and enjoy a hearty german breakfast. If I was a buyer for the Aldi store, I would definitely would have the wheat broetchen on the regular order. Keep the German customers happy. I would like to know the reason, why Aldi does not carry the broetchen year round?
