Specially Selected Small Batch Everything Sourdough
There are two types of bread we tend to eat in my house. The first is hearty whole grain loaves with lots of fiber, oats, and seeds. The second is sourdough.
Sourdough has a nice tangy flavor, and we love making sandwiches with some roasted chicken, a bit of mayo, and some sliced cheese. Sourdough also makes good avocado toast.
Aldi sells a regular sourdough loaf. Or, if you want sourdough with a twist, the grocer also stocks a sourdough loaf that’s coated with everything bagel seasoning. Here, I’m taking a closer look at the Aldi everything sourdough loaf.
Specially Selected Small Batch Everything Sourdough appears to be a Regular Buy, meaning you ought to be able to find it at Aldi all year. You’ll find it in the store’s baked goods aisle near the other breads and pastries.
We bought this ourselves and paid $3.29 for a 24-ounce loaf in 2025. That comes out to about 14 cents per ounce.
The loaf I bought for this review had a dated sticker that was 10 days out from my date of purchase. So, this should be good in your pantry for a little while. My family doesn’t go through bread very quickly, so we often freeze it and thaw slices as needed.
This is non-GMO verified, with no artificial flavors, preservatives, or colors. It is kosher.
Real sourdough is made with a fermented sourdough starter culture of good bacteria and natural yeast in a flour and water mixture. That fermentation comes with some potential benefits, including antioxidants to fight disease, a lower glycemic index to reduce blood sugar spikes, and possible improved digestion because sourdough functions like a prebiotic that feeds good gut bacteria.
This Aldi sourdough looks pretty authentic to us. That’s not something we can say about all store-bought sourdough, since some brands may use yeast or ascorbic acid rather than natural fermentation. Good sourdough will list cultures or fermented ingredients on the label.
The full ingredients list for this loaf is wheat flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour), water, sea salt, sourdough culture (wheat flour, water), poppy seeds, flax seeds, garlic, onion, and enzymes.

We like this loaf. It has that classic sour tang, and the addition of poppy seeds, garlic, and onion ups the flavor. This is great for savory sandwiches, toast, or whatever you need sourdough bread for.
The Verdict:
Specially Selected Small Batch Everything Sourdough takes regular sourdough up a notch in terms of flavor. We like how this is lightly crusted with everything bagel types of seasonings, including garlic, onion, and poppy seeds.

Past several weeks a Specialty sourdough with cheddar jalapeño was very tasty. I had my last slice from the freezer today. Will Aldi have it again? Not seen on the bread aisle for over a month. Also Aldi had an organic sourdough round in a green label package in the Spring 2025 but was hard to find in the different stores. Never in the bread aisle. Big mistake. Sales would have been much better in the bread aisle. Is this one coming back too?
We loved the cheddar jalapeno sourdough and just recently finished ours from the freezer as well. It was a limited-time Aldi Find, so it’s probably a once-a-year thing. I’m not sure about the other sourdough you mentioned.
LOVE this bread! It freezes well, too!
