Specially Selected Shrimp Masala Seafood Curry

In the late winter and early spring, you’re likely to see a lot of seafood at Aldi. This is good news if you observe Lent, or if you simply like seafood. Some of my personal favorites this time of year at Aldi are the crispy stuffed shrimp and the British-style fish and chips.

Among the new products that showed up this year are some seafood curry bowls. They’re available in either Thai green seafood curry or shrimp masala seafood curry.

Here, I’m taking a look at the shrimp masala seafood curry.

Specially Selected Shrimp Masala Curry

The label describes this as “shrimp in a creamy coconut, curry style sauce topped with green chilies and ginger.”

Specially Selected Shrimp Masala Seafood Curry is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store should receive one shipment, and it’s gone after that sells out. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.

This was scheduled to be in stores starting March 4th, 2026.

I paid $7.99 for a 12-ounce package in 2026. That comes out to about 67 cents per ounce. We buy Aldi products with our own money.

This is sold under the Specially Selected house brand. That’s not a manufacturer or company. Instead, it’s the name Aldi puts on various gourmet foods it sells, which it sources from different suppliers.

This is a product of the United Kingdom. The shrimp were farmed in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Ecuador. The package states, “The shrimp in this product come from farms that have been independently certified to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council’s standard for responsibly farmed seafood.”

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains fish (saithe), crustacean shellfish (shrimp), and milk.

The full ingredients list is: shrimp (Penaeus vannamei), salt, water, heavy cream (milk), coconut flakes, onion, green chili rings, lemon juice, cornstarch, sugar, ginger, red jalapeno chili, fish stock (fish stock powder, salt, maltodextrin, yeast extract, celeriac powder, onion powder, leek, canola oil, carrot powder, bay leaves, white pepper), ground cumin, garlic puree, tomato paste, cilantro seeds, ginger, fenugreek seeds, turmeric, cilantro powder, preservatives (sodium metabisulphite, citric acid), ground turmeric, cracked black pepper, rice flour, chili powder, cumin seeds, caraway seed, fennel seeds, potato starch, ground black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, poppy seed, and onion powder.

One package equals one serving. The nutrition panel states it has 401 calories, 25 grams of total fat (32% DV), 17 grams of saturated fat (84% DV), 6 grams of trans fat, 271 mg of cholesterol (91% DV), 2 mg of sodium (1% DV), 13 grams of total carbohydrates (5% DV), 7 grams of dietary fiber (22% DV), 8 grams of total sugars, no added sugars, and 30 grams of protein.

The listed sodium amount seems so small as to be a typo or mistake. I also think the fiber information is wrong. This meal is almost entirely shrimp and sauce, so I don’t know how it can have 7 grams of fiber. Also, while the nutrition panel says this contains no added sugars, sugar is listed among the ingredients, so I’m guessing it’s a very small amount of sugar.

Cooking Directions:

Frozen meal before baking.

This is packaged in a metal pan, so it’s not suitable for microwaving like many other frozen single-serving meals from Aldi. Instead, the only option listed for heating this is in a conventional oven. You bake it from frozen.

To bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove the cardboard sleeve and the plastic film top. Place the foil food tray in the preheated oven on a rack in the middle position. Bake for 25 minutes, stirring the product 20 minutes into the cooking time. Remove from the oven and let stand for 2-3 minutes before serving.

The package advises that this may contain small pieces of shell. Also, this contains raw shellfish and must be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

You may need to bake this for a bit longer than the instructions indicate. This wasn’t hot enough after 25 minutes in my oven. Despite stirring it well at the 20-minute mark as instructed, some of the shrimp were not yet totally pink. At 30 minutes, it was almost done, according to my food thermometer, and I baked it for 35 minutes until the sauce was lightly bubbling.

Our Thoughts:

Ready to serve after baking.

This is my favorite of the two seafood curry meals Aldi sold. It’s medium spicy, and it features a good number of shrimp in a well-seasoned sauce. I enjoyed it with a little basmati rice, also from Aldi.

This might be a bit expensive for what you get, but if you like spicy curry and shrimp, you might find it worth the price.

The Verdict:

Specially Selected Shrimp Masala Seafood Curry features shrimp in a creamy, coconut curry style sauce with green chilies and ginger. It’s moderately spicy and has plenty of shrimp, plus a few spicy pepper rings, in a nicely seasoned sauce. We recommend serving with naan or rice since this has a lot of sauce.
