From early spring into late fall, we’re often packing up to head off somewhere where we need folding chairs. We might be headed off to a local food truck night, or a weeklong camping expedition, or just a friend’s backyard BBQ gathering. Regardless of the where, we’ll toss a quartet of folding chairs into the trunk so we don’t end up sitting on the ground — we do have a folding blanket for the ground, but it’s not as comfortable.
I’ve gone through a number of chairs over the last two decades, and I’ve needed more chairs as I’ve gotten older, gotten married, and had kids. More people means more chairs, and more chairs means more chairs wearing out. Folding chairs don’t last forever; the strain of opening, closing, moving, and sitting in them inevitably takes its toll on both the chair and the bag.
No wonder, then, that you can find boxes of folding chairs every spring at big box stores, hardware stores, and even many dollar stores and some pharmacies.
Aldi has sold several folding chairs over the years, ranging from traditional chairs to small backpack-friendly models. On the more deluxe end of the spectrum, Aldi has taken to selling an oversized chair that has some extra perks.
We decided to take this bigger chair for a spin.
The Adventuridge Oversized Mesh Backed Chair (Product Code: 700965) is an Aldi Find, which means you can only find it in stores for a short time. Each store gets just one shipment, and once that shipment is sold out, you won’t be able to find it in stores again until Aldi brings it back, whenever that might be. Aldi doesn’t ship online, so if you can’t find them in your local stores, you’re out of luck.
At the time of this post, the chair retailed for $24.99. That’s about $8 more than its traditional cousin, which has fewer features and a lower weight capacity. On the other hand, other oversized chairs tend to run $35 and up, so within its class this chair seems to be competitively priced.
The chair currently comes in either blue or green. According to Aldi, features include:
- A built-in XL cup holder, phone holder, and 3-can cooler in the armrests
- Open dimensions: 35.4” x 23.6” x 37.8”
- An included carry bag with shoulder strap for easy carrying and storage
- Durable polyester fabric, padded seat, and a breathable mesh back
- A sturdy steel frame with powder coating
- A 350-lb. weight limit
The weight limit, it should be noted, is about 125 pounds higher than the cheaper traditional Aldi folding chair.
This chair also comes with a 2-year warranty, serviced by Westfield Outdoors, an outdoor accessories company that has backed other Aldi products. Given that many folding chairs like this one have no warranty at all, this is a nice bonus.
These chairs are easy to set up. You pull the chair out of the bag, unfold it, and you’re all set. There’s nothing to clip, tie up, or tie down.
As advertised, this chair is bigger than a more garden variety folding chair. It is a little taller, a little wider, and has a thicker frame. My feet actually dangle a little over the front of the chair, something that doesn’t happen with most other folding chairs.
Besides its increased size and weight limit, it has several other features that are different from its smaller counterpart. On the right arm, it has an oversized cup holder that can hold a bigger drink container than my typical chair. It also has a slot for a phone.
The back does not have a storage mesh bag like many chairs do, but it does have its own carry strap along with some Velcro to hold the chair together. With those, you can carry this chair without putting it in the bag if you need to, although the bag makes carrying it more comfortable.
I found this chair pretty easy to carry. It is a little heavier and larger than other chairs, but it’s not excessively heavy or large, which makes it a nice middle option between your typical budget folding chair and your heavy-duty captain’s chair.
The Adventuridge Oversized Mesh Backed Chair is a full-featured chair at a budget price. For $25, you get a chair with a 350-pound weight limit, an oversized cup holder, a phone slot, and a small cooler pocket. It sets up without fuss and folds up just as easily. Worth a look, especially if you want something more than a standard folding chair. The two-year warranty is a nice extra.
