Joie Detergent Sheets
If you do laundry, you know there are a couple of common forms of detergent. There’s liquid detergent, sold in plastic bottles. Aldi sells plenty of this. There are also laundry detergent pods or pacs. Or, you might use a powdered detergent, either homemade or purchased ready-made.
There is another option I’ve started to see in the last year or so: laundry detergent sheets.
Detergent sheets are exactly what they sound like. They’re small, flat rectangles — about the size of a fabric softener sheet — made of a solid laundry detergent that dissolves in water.
These sheets come with some advantages, depending on your needs or preferences. For instance, you don’t have to deal with measuring out detergent, since the sheets are pre-portioned. They’re also lightweight compared to a bottle of detergent, and they take up less space than a bottle. They also can be useful if you need to take laundry detergent along when you’re traveling and don’t want to risk a liquid detergent spilling in your luggage. Also, they’re packaged in a cardboard box that is recyclable, thus avoiding the large plastic bottles that come with liquid detergent.
It’s not always easy to find detergent sheets. My local regular grocery store sells some under a brand called Simply Done. I also bought some Arm & Hammer detergent sheets on Walmart’s website not long ago, and that’s the box I’ve been currently working through at home.
Then, in the early fall of 2025, Aldi sold laundry detergent sheets under the Joie brand. Joie is not an Aldi-exclusive brand, so it’s possible you might find these in other stores. These are an Aldi Find at Aldi, which means they’re in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back. Aldi doesn’t offer online ordering if these are out of stock at your local store.
Joie Detergent Sheets cost $3.99 for a box of 32 in 2025. That comes out to about 12 cents per sheet. One sheet is good for one regular load of laundry. Or, you can tear a sheet in half for a small load, or you can use two sheets for an extra heavy load.
The box has directions for using these: place a sheet inside the washing machine (tear into smaller pieces if necessary). Add laundry and start the washing machine. You can use hot or cold water.
The box says it’s good for up to 64 small loads, and the sheets have a “fresh linen scent.”

Ingredients are sodium lauryl sulfate, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium C-14-16 olefin, sulfonate, glycerin, water, and fragrance.
One ingredient in this list gave me pause: polyvinyl alcohol. It’s actually a type of plastic, and it’s also commonly used in dishwasher detergent pods or laundry detergent pods. It dissolves in water, but there are questions as to whether it really goes away when it dissolves. A look at most other brands’ ingredients lists indicates they contain this ingredient as well.
The back of the Joie box lists a phone number and website if you want more information on ingredients. The website states polyvinyl alcohol “can shape the laundry tablets and also enhance their solubility” and it’s “easy to dissolve in water.”
We’ll leave it up to readers to decide whether it’s worth it to use these sheets. Some readers might feel it’s better to use powdered detergent (store-bought or homemade) and avoid all plastic. Other readers might feel that, even if these sheets don’t completely eliminate plastic, they do use less plastic than the bottles that liquid detergent come in.
As for how these sheets perform, they work fine and get the job done. I’ve tried a good number of loads of laundry so far with no issues. They work as well as other brands I’ve used.
One of my minor complaints is that the fragrance is a bit strong coming out of the box. However, my laundry isn’t strongly scented after I use these, so the fragrance seems to be temporary.
Also, it’s a small quibble, but the box design is inferior compared to other detergent sheet brands. Most other brands have perforated sections in the box so that you can lift a flap on the box and individual sheets are easily dispensed … similar to how fabric softener sheets are dispensed out of a box. With this Joie box, though, you have to slide the entire stack of sheets out of the box to peel off a single sheet. I solved that by cutting the box to make a flap so I can easily access just the top sheet.
The Verdict:
Joie Detergent Sheets are sold in a cardboard box and are an interesting alternative to liquid laundry detergent or laundry pods. The sheets dissolve in the washing machine when you run a load of laundry as usual. These sheets have a strong smell in the box, but it seems to dissipate when you run a load of laundry. Also be aware that most types of detergent sheets like this contain a small amount of a certain type of plastic, similar to the plastic used in detergent pods or dishwasher pods.

Where can I buy more of the laundry sheets. My store doesn’t carry them anymore
These were a one-time special at Aldi. At this point, I haven’t seen Joie detergent sheets at any other retailers. However, I’ve found other brands at other stores like Walmart and large traditional grocery stores.
