Season’s Choice Tempura Carrot Coins + Tempura Crinkle Cut Zucchini

I’m always interested in vegetables that are covered in some type of batter or breading. Onion rings are a classic favorite. Aldi has also sold a few other interesting options in the past year, including veggie fries and crispy green beans.

The latest thing to show up in the limited-time freezer aisle is tempura-battered zucchini “fries” and carrot coins. As soon as I saw the weekly Aldi ad, I put them on my shopping list.

Season’s Choice Tempura Carrot Coins and Season’s Choice Tempura Crinkle Cut Zucchini are Aldi Finds. That means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering if these are out of stock at your local store. When they’re in stock, you’ll find them in the Aldi Find freezer case.

We buy Aldi products with our own money to review. I paid $3.49 for each 12-ounce package of these veggies at my local store in March of 2025.

These are products of Italy.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain wheat.

The full ingredients list is carrots or zucchini, plus batter (water, corn flour, wheat flour, corn starch, salt, natural flavors, and raising agents: disodium phosphate and sodium hydrogen carbonate), and sunflower oil.

The packages have directions for air frying, baking, or deep frying these. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees.

To air fry, place the veggies in a single layer in the tray. Cook for 13-14 minutes at 350 degrees. Flip and cook an additional 6 minutes.

To bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Place frozen veggies in a single layer on the baking sheet and position on the middle rack in the oven. Bake 20-24 minutes until golden brown, turning halfway through.

To deep fry, heat fryer oil to 375 degrees. Fry until golden, about 3 minutes. Remove the veggies and drain on paper towels.

I chose to air fry these. They both turned out well. The zucchini batter can get a little soft and mushy as it’s cooking, so I had to be careful when flipping it in the midst of the cooking time. The tempura zucchini is a a good alternative to traditional potato-based French fries. It crisped up nicely, and the zucchini has a mild flavor that pairs well with the tempura batter. Between the zucchini and the carrots, I liked the zucchini the best.

The carrots are good as well. They have a thick tempura coating that stayed put while air frying, and they turned out satisfyingly crispy. I felt like the carrots were a little on the bland side, and a sprinkle of salt gave them a flavor boost. The flavor and texture remind me a little of sweet potato fries, although sweet potato fries taste better, in my opinion.

These were both fun to try, and they were both decent to good. Personal preferences may vary, but I’d buy the zucchini again.

The Verdict:

Season’s Choice Tempura Carrot Coins and Season’s Choice Tempura Crinkle Cut Zucchini are an interesting alternative to French fries. They have a generous coating of tempura batter that crisps up when cooked. (We recommend air frying them.) While we like the zucchini best, the carrots are good as well.
