Whole & Simple Baja Fish Taco Rice Bowl
EDITOR’S NOTE: This review is from 2025. Aldi is selling identical Baja fish taco rice bowls in February of 2026.
Whenever I spot single-serving frozen meals under the Whole & Simple Aldi house brand, I always try them. This private label tends to feature more better-for-you ingredients with fewer processed components. Previous favorites include enchilada bowls, street corn riced cauliflower bowls, and shrimp alfredo bowls.
This week, I found a couple of Whole & Simple meals that I’m not sure I’ve seen Aldi sell before. One is a honey sesame salmon rice bowl. The other is a Baja fish taco rice bowl.
Here, I’m taking a closer look at the fish taco rice bowl. The package describes this as pollock, tomatoes, red bell peppers, onions, cabbage, black beans, roasted corn, green chili peppers, and rice with cilantro lime crema sauce.
The Whole & Simple Baja Fish Taco Rice Bowl is an Aldi Find. That means it’s in stores for just a short time. Each store should get one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is sold out at your local store.
We paid $4.79 for a 9.6-ounce package in August of 2025. That’s about 50 cents per ounce. It was the same price when Aldi sold it again in February of 2026.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains fish (pollock) and milk.
This has some stabilizers (guar, locust bean, and xanthan gums) and maltodextrin. The rest of the ingredients are mostly easily recognizable items you might have in your home kitchen.
While this has a lot of wholesome ingredients, it does have some fat, saturated fat, and a small amount of added sugar. It also has a fair amount of sodium. One bowl (272 grams) has 310 calories, 7 grams of total fat (9% DV), 4 grams of saturated fat (20% DV), 790 mg of sodium (34% DV), 42 grams of total carbohydrates (15% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 9 grams of total sugars, 4 grams of added sugars (8% DV), and 18 grams of protein.

The box has directions for microwaving this from frozen. Remove the meal tray from the box. Cut a 1-inch slit in the film. Microwave on high for 3.5 minutes. Remove the film and stir. Microwave on high for an additional 1.5 minutes. Let stand for 1 minute, then enjoy.

This tasted really good. The fish is mild and not at all fishy-tasting. In fact, the fish has very little flavor. The rest of this dish is very flavorful. It has plenty of seasoned rice in sauce, with black beans, tomatoes, corn, and other veggies mixed in.
The Verdict:
The Whole & Simple Baja Fish Taco Rice Bowl is delicious, with mild-flavored pollock and flavorful rice, veggies, and cilantro lime crema sauce. This does have a lot of sodium, though, so it’s not something we’ll eat all the time.

I hope Aldi brings the Fish Taco Bowls back to our store. So, so good!
Also the Salmon Bowls……both really good for a quick meal.
