Clancy’s Pretzels Filled With Peanut Butter

I can’t say that I’m a huge pretzel person, but they’re not bad. Sure, they’re mostly carbs and sodium, but as snacks go they’re also a fun change of pace from some of my other snack foods. That salty, crunchy taste pairs great with a sporting event or a lazy afternoon watching a movie.
More concretely, pretzels can also pair great with other foods. Soft pretzels, for instance, are dynamite with cheese. Hard pretzels are harder to match, so it’s always helpful if they come pre-paired with another food. That’s why this particular Aldi product recently caught my eye.
Clancy’s Pretzels Filled With Peanut Butter are a Regular Buy at Aldi, which means you can find them in stores all the time. At the time of this post, they come in a 24-ounce bag and cost $4.99. That’s about 20.8 cents an ounce, which appears to be a pretty good price.
These are basically crunchy pretzel nuggets with peanut butter inside.
I have to say that the taste is … well, predictable. These nuggets are a crunchy, salty pretzel on the outside with peanut butter on the inside. I wasn’t sure how the flavors would work, but they’re all right. I can’t say this is my very favorite peanut butter pairing, but it’s solid. And it’s no disrespect on the ingredients, which are tasty enough.
In terms of ingredients, it’s not as loaded on additives as I would have thought. It contains just a handful of components. It does have some calories per 10-piece serving (130), as well as some fat (5g), a fair amount of sodium (190mg), and some carbs (17g). No surprises there given what these are. Also no surprise that, on the allergen front, these contain wheat and peanuts.

The Verdict:
If you like pretzels with peanut butter, or if you are just looking for a different kind of snack, these may be worth a pickup. The peanut butter and pretzels both have the taste and texture I’m used to, including a good pretzel crunch. The price, too, looks pretty solid.

I am concerned about the recent changes made to Clancy’s Pretzels filled with Peanut Butter. The “new” version has increased the calories from 130 to 140, the total fat from 5g to 6g, the sodium from 190mg to 320mg, the total carbohydrate from 17g to 18g, and the added sugars from 1g to 2g. Also, there are 23 servings per bag instead of the usual 24. With Americans moving toward better health options, this is a move in the wrong direction. Though I’ve enjoyed this product for years, I will not be purchasing this product until it returns to its previous nutrition status.
