Green tea is a healthy choice when it comes to drinks. It’s made from the same plant that black tea comes from, Camellia sinensis, but it’s processed quickly before the leaves can oxidize or turn brown like black tea leaves do. This gives green tea not only a unique flavor but also a slate of potential benefits. It has antioxidants that help ward off inflammation and diabetes. It may ease anxiety, lower cholesterol, improve brain and bone health, and promote longevity.
My husband and I drink a lot of hot tea of all types, and we regularly include green tea in our rotation. My husband likes classic green tea with no frills. I often prefer green tea with a little extra. Jasmine green tea is my favorite, but Aldi hasn’t sold that for a few years, so I usually buy a name-brand Twinings jasmine green tea at my local traditional grocery store. I also still occasionally drink regular green tea from Aldi.
Aldi stocks two types of green tea all the time: regular or original green tea with nothing added to it, and a lemon & ginseng green tea. The regular green tea is a staple in our house. I’m less a fan of taste of the lemon & ginseng variety, but personal preferences vary, and I do buy it from time to time.
Benner Tea Co. Green Tea is a Regular Buy. That means you ought to be able to find it all year at Aldi.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I paid $1.49 for each box in February of 2025. The regular green tea comes in a 1.06-ounce box, while the lemon and ginseng tea comes in a 1.27-ounce box. Each box contains 20 tea bags, which comes out to about 7 cents per tea bag.
Walmart-brand Great Value Green Tea sold for the same price of 7 cents per tea bag in 2025 if you buy a box of 40 tea bags. Name-brand Bigelow Green Tea sold for around 12 cents per tea bag at Walmart in 2025. So, the Aldi green tea is comparable in price to other store brands, and it’s cheaper than name brands.
These Aldi green teas are kosher.
The only ingredient in the regular green tea is green tea.
Meanwhile, the lemon and ginseng green tea contains green tea, lemongrass, lemon peels, natural flavors, and Asian ginseng root.
Green tea contains 30-50 mg of caffeine per 8-ounce serving. That’s less caffeine than what other caffeinated drinks contain. Plain brewed coffee has 102-200 mg of caffeine per serving, for instance, and black tea has 25-110 mg.
The tea bags are packaged individually in plastic wrap, and I wish Aldi could find a better way to keep the tea fresh rather than using plastic.
The brewing instructions are the same regardless of the green tea flavor.
To brew hot tea, bring fresh cold water to a rolling boil. Let water cool 1 minute after boiling. Pour water over a tea bag and steep for 1-2 minutes. Remove the tea bag. If desired, serve with sweetener.
To make iced tea (one quart), bring fresh cold water to a rolling boil. Let water cool for 1 minute after boiling. Pour 4 cups over 3-5 tea bags and brew for 1-2 minutes. If desired, serve with sweetener.
The Verdict:
Benner Tea Co. Green Tea comes in regular or lemon & ginseng flavors. They’re both good, and if you like green tea, the Aldi green tea is an economical option.
