Sundae Shoppe Chocolate & Crème Gelato Cake
My family doesn’t eat nearly as many sweets these days, but I decided to indulge a bit when I saw a gelato cake in the weekly Aldi ad. Gelato, which has origins in Italy and is similar to ice cream but with less butterfat, is a real treat.
Aldi is selling a limited-edition chocolate and vanilla gelato cake, so I picked one up. The package says this is a “decadent chocolate & crème gelato cake with chocolate drizzle & chocolate shavings.”
The Sundae Shoppe Chocolate & Crème Gelato Cake is an Aldi Find. That means it’s in stores for a short time only. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone until whenever Aldi might decide to bring it back. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are out of stock at your local store.
We buy Aldi products with our own funds. I paid $7.99 for a 17.6-ounce gelato cake at my local Aldi in April of 2025. That comes out to around 45 cents per ounce. One cake has about 6 servings, which comes out to about $1.33 per serving.
This is a product of Italy.

This has a lengthy ingredients list that includes plenty of ultra-processed items. Ingredients are nonfat milk, water, sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, coconut oil, dextrose, whey solids, anhydrous milk fat, cream, cocoa powder processed with alkali, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, milk, mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, carob bean gum, lactose, guar gum, vanillin, natural flavors, pectin, sodium alginate, carrageenan, sunflower lecithin and/or rapeseed lecithin, and soy lecithin.

One 2/3-cup serving (80.5 grams) has 170 calories, 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 7 grams of saturated fat (35% DV), 30 mg of sodium (1% DV), 21 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), less than 1 gram of dietary fiber (3% DV), 20 grams of total sugars, 16 grams of added sugars (32% DV), and 2 grams of protein.
This cake comes inside a plastic tray with a plastic lid. To serve, simply remove the lid and slice / scoop out servings.

There is no cake in this gelato cake. It’s really just loaf cake-shaped swirled gelato topped with a small amount of chocolate drizzle and chocolate shavings. It’s similar to the knockoff Vienetta ice cream cakes Aldi has sold the last few years, but this gelato cake has less crunchy chocolate.

The Verdict:
The Sundae Shoppe Chocolate & Crème Gelato Cake is from Italy and features chocolate- and crème-flavored gelato with a bit of chocolate drizzle and chocolate shavings on top. (There is no traditional cake in this dessert.) If you’re a fan of gelato or of ice cream cakes, this is worth trying.
