Kirkwood Seasoned Turkey Burgers

I’ve started including homemade turkey burgers in my family’s regular meal rotation lately. Turkey is better for us compared to traditional beef burgers, and I’ve got a tasty go-to recipe that calls for mixing ground turkey with breadcrumbs, onion flakes, and various seasonings.

It’s not hard to make burgers from scratch, and it only takes a few minutes to mix and shape the patties. However, nothing beats the convenience of buying premade frozen burger patties from the grocery store. Aldi sells delicious regular beef burgers, and occasionally the grocer sells chicken burgers.

One thing I’ve rarely, if ever, seen at Aldi is turkey burgers. (I can sometimes find turkey burgers at Aldi’s cousin, Trader Joe’s, though.)

That changed when I noticed these seasoned turkey burgers in the freezer case during a recent Aldi run.

Kirkwood Seasoned Turkey Burgers are a new Seasonal Product that’s sold during the spring and summer grilling season. That means Aldi stocks them for longer than an Aldi Find, but they are not sold year round. Aldi does not offer online ordering if these are not currently in your local store.

We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I paid $6.99 for a 32-ounce box containing six burgers. That comes out to about $1.17 per burger or around 22 cents per ounce.

These contain some processed ingredients, including natural flavor and dextrose. They also have a small amount of added sugar, which seems unnecessary and is a bit disappointing, since I can make very good homemade turkey burgers without any added sugar.

The full ingredients list is turkey and 2% or less of natural flavor, spice, onion, garlic, sugar, salt, and dextrose. It would be useful if Aldi clarified what “spice” is used in these.

These are gluten free with no MSG. They are 90% lean with 10% fat.

The box has cooking instructions for a skillet or an outdoor grill. There is no need to thaw these, and they can be cooked from frozen. You should keep them frozen until you’re ready to cook them.

To cook these in a skillet, lightly oil the cooking surface. Place frozen burgers in the preheated skillet and cook over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes. Turn burgers and continue cooking the second side for 6-8 minutes or until burgers reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Refrigerate any leftovers promptly.

We opted to cook these on our outdoor grill. Our burgers were done after about 6 minutes on each side. They came out tender, juicy, and pretty good.

I probably won’t make a habit of buying these, since I prefer controlling the ingredients that go into my homemade turkey burgers. However, these are convenient and taste fine.

The Verdict:

Kirkwood Seasoned Turkey Burgers look like a newer Seasonal Product available during the spring and summer at Aldi. They’re sold frozen and cook from frozen in minutes. They taste good and are not heavily seasoned. They have some processed ingredients, but if you’re looking for an alternative to traditional beef burgers, these are a decent choice.
