EDITOR’S NOTE: We reviewed this in 2025. Aldi is selling a similar planter the week of April 22nd, 2026, for the same price of $19.99. See our update at the end of this post with information on how it’s held up over the past year.
Spring is here, and gardening supplies are in full bloom in the middle aisle at Aldi. This is the time of year when you’ll spot various greenhouses, plant shelves, planters, potting mix, small garden tools, and more at the discount grocery store.
In the spring of 2025, Aldi introduced something new: a wooden planter with a built-in wooden trellis. The planter with trellis stands not quite four and a half feet tall, and it’s more than 17 inches wide and nearly 12 inches deep. It looks great for growing anything that features trailing vines, such as flowering clematis or morning glories, or even veggies like peas or cucumbers.
I picked one up on the day it arrived at my local store.
The Belavi Wooden Planter with Trellis is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store. This was scheduled to arrive in stores April 23rd, 2025. In 2026, it’s scheduled to arrive April 22nd.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I paid $19.99 for this planter in April of 2025. That’s cheaper than similar planters on Amazon.

Here’s more info, according to the box:
- Dimensions: 53 x 17.7 x 11.8 inches
- Provides support for climbing plants
- Liner included
- Made of 100% FSC certified wood
This is sold under the Belavi Aldi house brand. Belavi is not a company. It’s simply the name Aldi puts on various garden supplies it sells, which it sources from different suppliers.
Unboxing:

When you open the box, you’ll immediately notice the pleasant cedar scent. The box contains the trellis top, a back piece, two side panels, a front panel, a bottom panel, a plastic liner, and three sets of four screws in different sizes. Plus, there’s an instruction manual. There’s also a small packet to keep everything fresh, which you can discard.
Assembly:

The assembly instructions are pretty easy to navigate. You do need a Phillips head screwdriver, which is not included. There are some predrilled holes, but not everything is predrilled. However, the wood is soft enough that a power drill is not necessary at all.

It might be helpful to have a second person to hold the pieces together and keep them straight as you screw everything together. However, I assembled this by myself and it wasn’t too hard. It took me only 10 minutes or so.

The Finished Planter:

It’s a nice-looking planter when it’s all assembled.

I placed the assembled planter with trellis on a covered porch that gets a lot of sun for much of the day. The fact that it’s covered will hopefully help the wood to last longer.
This seems like it would hold up best when placed on a deck, porch, patio, apartment balcony, or somewhere that offers a little shelter from the elements. The manual recommends placing it on a surface that can withstand moisture and water, such as concrete or pavers.
The liner is definitely noticeable when it’s in the planter. It’s like a trash bag made to fit the planter, and I don’t know how long it will last. Presumably, I can find replacement liners somewhere.

I bought a couple of bags of Aldi potting mix when I bought this planter. It took about three quarters of one bag to fill the planter. I then planted it with some sugar snap pea seeds. I’m looking forward to seeing what this looks like once my peas begin to grow and climb the trellis.
In the meantime, this looks like a decent planter for the price.
The Verdict:
The Belavi Wooden Planter with Trellis is inexpensive and assembles easily in just a few minutes with a Phillips screwdriver (not included). The wood appears to be cedar, if the scent when we opened the box is any indication. This isn’t a large planter, but it looks nice, and it’s big enough to grow a few plants. We’ll see how it holds up throughout the growing season and update this post with any new developments.
UPDATE (4/16/2026) — I’ve owned this trellis for a year. Sometimes I’ve kept it under a sheltered porch, and other times it’s been more exposed on my patio. I grew sugar snap peas in it last spring and summer. One downside is that it’s not a large planter, so you have to be diligent about keeping plants watered, as they can dry out quickly in this. Otherwise, it’s a decent planter for the price and is reasonably durable.

You can hardly duplicate this yourself for twenty bucks.
It’s nice they provided dimensions this time.
Agreed!
IF NO PORCH IS AVAILABLE, CAN THE ASSEMBLED PLANTER BE PAINTED TO MAKE MORE WATERPROOF FOR OUTDOOR USAGE?
I applied 2 coats ofpolyurethane on mine to help protect the wood. Here’s hoping it works.
Two of my boxes came without liners. Any ideas where I could find some or what I can use to protect the wood?
Plastic garbage bag. The liner is just that. Do not know if the original liner is food safe. Dollar stores have garden liners.
I purchased this planter but neither of the two side panels have any screw holes or indentations of where the screws should go in. The instructions say to line up the holes in the side panels with the holes on the back panel, then the front panel. Did anyone else have panels with no screw holes? Looks like I’ll need to return it.
My side panels didn’t have predrilled holes either. I placed/held them where they needed to be and then screwed on the back and front panels, which do have holes. The wood is soft, so even without holes, the screws go right in.
Haven’t seen these at my Aldi’s.
Either these were very popular at 2 of my Aldi’s or they just never got them.
