Adventuridge Men’s Flannel Shirt Jacket

I live in a part of the Midwest where the temperature shift from summer to fall is a dramatic one. In late summer, highs in the 80s and 90s are common. While most pools close after Labor Day, the weather still feels pretty swim-worthy through much of September.

October is a different story. My area can still spit out the oddball 80s day, but by and large, the highs start to moderate out to the 60s and 70s, while lows start to edge into the 40s. It’s not quite frost weather, but it will be soon, and I can’t rule out a morning that starts in the 30s.

Just like that, the shorts go into storage and the coats come out.

For that reason, I’m always on the lookout for good fall weather clothing. Summer may be t-shirts and shorts weather, and winter might be coats weather, but fall needs something in between, and it’s not always easy for me to find the right in-between clothing. Back in 2020, Aldi sold a flannel shirt jacket that I tested out but found lacking … and then, in 2023, Aldi sold one that appeared to be an upgrade.

I decided to find out if I was right.

Men's Flannel Shirt Jacket

The Adventuridge Men’s Flannel Shirt Jacket is an Aldi Find. It’s only in stores for a limited time, and once it’s sold out, you won’t be able to get it anymore until it comes back, whenever that might be. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

At post time, the jacket cost $14.99. Needless to say, that’s less than your average flannel shirt jacket. It was also $3 less than the 2020 Aldi flannel jacket.

There were some variations among the jackets at my store, with some with hoods and some without, and sizes ranging from medium to XXL. I went with a medium, which only had one style: a hooded version with a red and black plaid design.

According to the packaging, the coat has a shell of 60% cotton and 40% polyester, and a lining and filling of 100% polyester. It’s manufactured in Bangladesh and is certified “Standard 100” by OEKO-TEK, which tests for harmful substances in textiles.

The instructions call for machine washing with warm water with like colors on a gentle cycle, then tumbling dry on low heat. It shouldn’t be dry cleaned, but it can be warm ironed if needed.

Mine has a warm Sherpa fleece lining in both the body and the hood but not in the arms. It also has two side pockets and a button and zipped front.

Right out of the gate, my hopes about this being an improvement over the 2020 model were confirmed. For one thing, it has pockets, which is an underrated component of a coat in colder weather. The hood is another boon. The jacket looks much better, in my view, than the older models, and it fits better. The Sherpa lining is soft and comfortable, and the combination of buttons and zippers creates a nice warm seal in the front.

Are there negatives? None that I can see so far. It’s still too early to see how well it holds up — and there’s no warranty — but initial build quality certainly feels promising.

The Verdict:

While some earlier versions of the Adventuridge Men’s Flannel Shirt Jacket left something to be desired, this 2023 model appears to be the real deal. It includes some key features — pockets, a hood, and Sherpa lining — that improve on it in a big way, and the look and fit are better, too. If you’re in the market for a fall jacket, especially a flannel one, consider this one if you spot it on shelves.
