Trader Joe’s Jalapeño & Cream Cheese Crispy Wontons

Crispy wontons are a great side dish or appetizer. Whether they’re filled with crab meat or just plain cream cheese, they’re always satisfyingly creamy, crunchy, chewy, and delicious.

While browsing the freezer aisle at Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi, I found some jalapeño and cream cheese crispy wontons that looked intriguing. I dropped a box in my shopping cart.

We buy products for review using our own funds. I paid $4.99 for a 7.5-ounce box of Trader Joe’s Jalapeño & Cream Cheese Crispy Wontons in April of 2025. That’s about 67 cents per ounce.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain milk and wheat. They may contain egg.

The full ingredients list includes wonton wrappers, cream cheese, parmesan cheese, jalapeño peppers, canola oil, garlic, sour cream, onion, water, chives, heavy cream, ginger, cornstarch, jalapeño pepper powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. The cream cheese contains some stabilizers such as guar gum and carob bean gum, but otherwise the ingredient list features pretty familiar items.

The box has directions for cooking these from frozen in either a conventional oven or an air fryer.

To bake in the oven, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove all packaging and place frozen wontons on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet on the center rack in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown or to an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Let stand 2 minutes before serving.

To air fry, preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove all packaging and place frozen wontons in the air fryer tray. Air fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown or to an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Let stand 2 minutes before serving.

I cooked these in my air fryer. You’ll want to be careful not to overcook these, as doing so will cause the filling to start to ooze out.

These are delicious. The wontons come out crispy and savory, with a creamy filling with just the right amount of kick. These are on the upper end of mildly spicy, as I expected. They’re great served as an appetizer, or for lunch alongside a salad.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Jalapeño & Cream Cheese Crispy Wontons are a good choice if you’re looking for an appetizer or snack in the freezer aisle at Trader Joe’s. They are as advertised: crispy and creamy, with a perfect level of spice.
