Farmer’s Promise Biggins Russet Potatoes
We’ve been using Aldi produce for many years now. To be honest, even as Aldi writers, we don’t always give a second look at the brands on said produce. We just pick up what we need.
Like all Aldi products, the grocer sources its produce from other companies. Unlike other Aldi products, you don’t see as many Aldi-specific house brands on produce. While I don’t doubt there are practical reasons, the end result is that you’ll see some labels on Aldi fruits and vegetables that you don’t see anywhere else in the store … and that you may see in other grocery stores.
Aldi, as you would expect, sells potatoes. Unfortunately, they come in large bags, so if you just need one potato, Aldi isn’t the place to get it. Still, for our needs we often get them from Aldi. Here, I want to take a look at the potatoes sold in our area — depending on where you live, you might have the same source or a different one.
Farmer’s Promise Biggins Russet Potatoes are an Aldi Regular Buy. You can get them in stores all the time. My store sells them in both 5-pound and 10-pound plastic bags. For my purposes, I picked up the 5-pound bag. In 2025, the bag cost $3.49, or around 70 cents a pound.
Farmer’s Promise is a brand operated by RPE, LLC, a produce company based out of Wisconsin that specializes in potatoes. RPE also operates a potato brand called Tasteful Selections. The Aldi potatoes say they are a product of the United States.
The ingredients are as simple as they get: russet potatoes. Each potato has approximately 110 calories, 26 grams of cabs, 2 grams of dietary fiber, and 3 grams of protein. They also have some health benefits, as they are a modest source of iron, potassium, and Vitamin B6, and a solid source of Vitamin C.

The packaging offers some helpful instructions. The potatoes should be kept in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, dark place until used. Keep them out of sunlight. The bag also notes they should not be refrigerated, as refrigeration causes the starches to break down into sugars, which can change the flavor of the potato. In addition, you should not wash these until you plan to use them, as a damp potato can spoil faster.
We’ve used these potatoes for years and they’ve been … like potatoes. They serve up the way we would expect. We’ve made baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, breakfast potatoes, twice-baked potatoes, and other potato dishes out of these, and they do the job each time.
The Verdict:
Farmer’s Promise Biggins Russet Potatoes are a good all-purpose potato that is especially good for baking. They’re priced well and cook up just as well. While we wish Aldi sold single potatoes, picking up one of these 5- or 10-pound bags is still a good value.
