L&D Premium Kids Backpack Headed to Aldi for Back-to-School Season

Aldi has a long and, I think, underrated history when it comes to school backpacks. The grocer has routinely stocked affordable and well-built backpacks going back years. We first wrote about them all the way back in 2016, having purchased them for kids ourselves. Since then, we’ve seen Aldi stock them each summer, just in time for children to return to classes.
The only knock on the backpacks? They’re competing with brands and licenses. Students may want a specific label or character, something you won’t find with Aldi’s private label backpacks. The store does occasionally sell licensed fare, but they aren’t necessarily as big or as durable as the store’s house brands.
Aldi has moved its kids backpacks across different labels over the year — keep in mind that Aldi labels aren’t separate companies — but one thing that hasn’t changed is that Aldi continues to stock student backpacks for people who need student backpacks.
What We Know:
The L&D Premium Kids Backpack is an Aldi Find. Each store gets one shipment, and once that shipment is sold out, it’s sold out. If you can’t find any in stores, you’re out of luck until the following summer when Aldi stocks them again.
L&D is a variation on Lily and Dan, a private label Aldi has used over the years for its children’s clothing and accessories.
In 2026 the backpack cost $16.99. That’s about the same price you’d pay for a non-licensed student backpack on Amazon.
Styles vary from year to year. In 2026, Aldi sold five styles as part of a mixed case: butterfly, checker, dino, floral, and sports.
It’s worth noting that Aldi often sells other accessories that match the patterns on the backpacks. What exact accessories vary from year to year, but they may include matching lunch bags or matching thermoses.

What We Don’t Know:
While we’ve purchased and used various Aldi backpacks over the years, including kids backpacks, business backpacks, and all-purpose backpacks, we’ve never tried out this specific model. That’s why we’ve created this open thread for users to share their thoughts.
Do you have any experience with this Aldi backpack? Let us know about it in the comments.
