Benner Tea Co. Black Tea

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi appeared to have discontinued this tea sometime in the summer or fall of 2025, but then in November of 2025 we saw it back on shelves. We’re not sure if it’s staying or going.

Benner Black Tea
Our most recent sighting of this tea in November of 2025.

My husband and I are regular hot tea drinkers. I drink at least one cup a day, and often two or three cups, especially during the colder months. Of late, one of my favorite places to buy tea is at a little English-themed shop in my area that sells imported brands like Yorkshire Tea and PG Tips. I also regularly buy tea from Aldi.

Yes, the little German grocery store sells a decent selection of tea. One of the most underrated options at Aldi is this inexpensive bulk box of black tea bags.

We buy Aldi products for review with our own money. I paid $2.09 for an 8-ounce box of Benner Tea Co. Black Tea in 2024. The box contains 100 tea bags, which comes out to about 2 cents per tea bag.

The only ingredient is black tea. It is kosher.

The box is sold wrapped in plastic wrap. When you remove the wrap and open the box, you’ll find all the tea bags, which are not individually wrapped.

What it looks like inside the box: lots of tea bags.

That means there is minimal plastic or paper waste since each bag isn’t wrapped. However, to keep the tea bags fresh, I usually transfer them to a separate sealed container. I have a set of glass jars with acacia lids and rubber seals (purchased from Aldi) that I use for storing tea, and I put these black tea bags into one of those jars.

One cup of tea, coming up.

The box has directions for brewing hot tea or making iced tea.

To make hot tea, bring fresh cold water to a rolling boil. Pour water over a tea bag and brew for 3-5 minutes. Remove the tea bag. (We compost our tea bags.) If desired, serve with lemon and/or sweetener.

To make iced tea, bring fresh cold water to a rolling boil. Pour 4 cups of water over 3 to 5 tea bags and brew for 3-5 minutes. Remove tea bags and pour tea over ice-filled glasses. If desired, serve with lemon and/or sweetener.

I typically serve this hot, sometimes with a little honey. It’s a good black tea, and surprisingly flavorful for as inexpensive as it is.

Some tea from Aldi can be on the weak side — my husband and I feel like Aldi Earl Grey tea isn’t the most impressive, and neither are most of the teas in the new Aldi tea Advent calendar — but this basic black tea hits the mark. If you’re thinking about trying tea from Aldi, you can’t go wrong with this one.

The Verdict:

Benner Tea Co. Black Tea is a bulk box of 100 basic black tea bags. It’s the least expensive tea option at Aldi, and it’s pretty good. We regularly keep this tea stocked in our home tea collection.

  1. I beg to differ with this review. I’m an avid tea drinker, and I love Aldi, finding their store-brand products broadly comparable to the major brands. This tea is disgusting; it tastes like sawdust, and is in no way comparable to standard teabags from Lipton, Tetley, Twinings or any of the rest.

  2. To each his own. Benner Black Tea is my favorite, and when I could find it, I drank three or more cups a day. Unfortunately, Aldi quit selling it in the stores in my area, so I’m still looking for it locally with no luck, so maybe nobody else likes it but me.

    1. We haven’t found it in our local stores for a while either. We still have a decent stash at home, but it will be a sad day when we use the last tea bag.

  3. I have been to three Aldi’s this morning. And they are out.
I need four boxes as soon as I can get it . Can I please order it or something? This is the only tea I can drink.

    1. We haven’t seen it at Aldi in a while, unfortunately. It’s possible Aldi might have discontinued it. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are out of stock in your local store, so you’re out of luck.

  4. Well, this past week we found this black tea on Aldi shelves again. It’s sold in a mixed case with other tea. We’re not sure if it’s back for good or not, but fingers crossed it sticks around.

  5. I also bought the Brenner Black Tea, 100 count, regularly at Aldi. The price, compared with other stores that carry it is literally a steal. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find it within the last couple of months. I have tried many Aldis locations in SW Florida and even a couple in Virginia. It appears this tea has been replaced with a 25 count Brenner Black Iced Tea, Family Sized bags. I hope this is not a forever change.
