Clancy’s Pretzel Slims

Pretzels can hit the spot when you’re craving a snack that is crispy and a little salty. You’ll find several types of pretzels in the Aldi snack aisle, including pretzel sticks and mini twists, pub style pretzels (a personal favorite of mine), and peanut butter filled pretzels.

While browsing the Aldi snack aisle recently for some easy foods to pack in school and work lunches, I found these pretzel slims. They’re flat, skinny pretzels that are more like a cracker, great for eating on their own or as a base for meat, cheese, dip, veggies, or whatever you might eat on a cracker. These pretzel slims come in two flavors: original or everything (as in everything bagel seasoning). The packages state these are baked and bite-sized.

When I purchased these, the young Aldi employee who rang me up remarked how much he likes these. He also commented that you can buy a different brand at a certain big box store for nearly “twice the price.”

Clancy's Pretzel Slims

Clancy’s Pretzel Slims are a Regular Buy, so you should be able to find them at Aldi any time of year.

They cost $1.89 at the time of publication for an 8-ounce package. Each package contains eight 1-ounce servings (about 23 pieces). That comes out to about 27 cents per ounce/serving.

I found some Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps at Walmart for between 36 and 48 cents per ounce at the time of writing, depending on whether you buy a 7.2-ounce package or a larger 14-ounce package. That makes the Aldi pretzel slims the better deal, unless you want specific flavors under the Snack Factory brand such as Garlic Parmesan or Buffalo Wing that Aldi does not sell.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these Aldi pretzel slims contain wheat. They are kosher and are non GMO verified.

Ingredients for the original flavor include enriched wheat flour, cane sugar, salt, malt syrup, and soda.

Ingredients for the everything flavor include enriched wheat flour, cane sugar, salt, tapioca malt syrup, poppy seeds, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onions, spice (it would be helpful if they said what spices), canola oil, and soda.

Nutrition information is pretty similar between the two flavors. One serving has 110 calories, no fat or cholesterol, 270 mg of sodium (12% DV), 23-24 grams of total carbohydrates (8-9% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (4% DV), and 2-3 grams of protein.

Original on the left, everything on the right.

These are delicious and didn’t last long in my house. Some family members prefer the original flavor, citing the everything flavor as having a strange taste or an aftertaste. However, I like both flavors. The original has just the right amount of saltiness, while the everything flavor has classic notes of garlic, salt, and onion.

Both flavors are good served on their own, but we also liked eating these with sliced cheese cubes. They would be a great part of a charcuterie board served alongside meats such as salami or pepperoni, or with sliced cheese, dips such as hummus or French onion dip, or whatever other accompaniments you might dream up.

The only downside might be that these packages are on the smaller side, so you might end up buying a lot of packages.

The Verdict:

Clancy’s Pretzel Slims come in original or everything flavors, and we like them both. These are more like crackers than pretzels, and they make a good snack straight out of the bag. You can also serve them with sliced meats and cheese, or with dip.
