Easy Home Folding Step Stool

Height is an interesting thing, when you stop to think about it.
For shorter people, life might seem like it’s perpetually out of reach. Shelves in the store might be a pain to get up to. Car pedals might be a stretch to work. And of course then there’s clothes.
For taller people, the world might seem like it’s perpetually cramped. Door frames are always in danger of hitting them on the head. Same with the inside roof of the car. And, like shorter people, there’s also clothes.
Taller people are generally at an advantage when it comes to reaching up to high spaces. For the rest of us — even people of medium height — it’s nice to have a little bit of extra help.
There are times you need to get up to the roof, and times you just need to see above the refrigerator. Aldi, to our knowledge, hasn’t ever sold any solutions to the first problem, but the store has, for years, served up a solution to the second.

The Easy Home Folding Step Stool is an Aldi Find. That means each store gets one shipment, and once it’s sold out, you won’t be able to get it again until it’s back in stores, whenever that might be. Fortunately, these stools seem to come back multiple times a year, so if you miss out, they often come back before too long.
In early 2025, Aldi sold the step stool for $6.99. In our experience, the stool has, for the most part, been at or around this price for several years. Amazon sells all kinds of stools like this, but they start at double this price. If you want one like this, Aldi is the cheapest place to get it.
As the name suggests, this is a foldable stool. When open, it is the size of a small box and has a textured top to prevent slipping. When closed, it is not much thicker than a large novel. The mechanism to switch between the two is rather ingenious; you pull it apart at the bottom to open it, and to close it all you need to do is lift it by the handle and gravity pulls it closed.
The packaging puts the dimensions at 11.42 inches x 8.66 inches x 8.66 inches when fully opened. That means you’ve got about a foot of length from heel to heel, about eight inches from front to back, and about eight inches off the ground. Eight inches may not seem like a lot vertically, and to be honest it isn’t — this is not something you’ll use to climb up into the attic.
But it’s also not nothing. Standing on this stool, for me, was the difference between staring up at the roof of my SUV and staring down at it. It was the difference between straining to reach the top shelf of the closet and being able to access it without trouble.
We’ve had these going back to at least 2016, and we’ve found them to be useful for children and adults alike. For example, one of my kids was four years old back in 2016, and was able to use one of these stools to work on the kitchen countertop. That same kid is now a teenager, and uses a stool to access the top of a tall dresser.

The stool is, in fact, as well-suited suited for child use. It’s very simple to open and close, easy to carry, and has a textured surface that does a good job of preventing slips. It seems to rest solidly on the ground, another plus when you’re talking about young feet.
I felt just as stable standing on the stool as an adult. The stool is very light, made of a firm plastic, but it also feels substantial enough that I wasn’t worried about what was holding me up. The stool says it will support up to 330 pounds, and having tested it, I believe it.
The Verdict:
We’ve been using these stools for years now, and they’re one of the more underrated limited buys Aldi sells. We keep them scattered throughout the house, ready to use when we need to get up to places just out of reach. We’ve found them to be sturdy and stable, and the fact that they’re inexpensive makes them even better. If you have spaces that you could use another foot of height to reach, these are worth picking up.
Can you elaborate on the availability of these non-food items? I visit four Aldi’s in the Pittsburgh area and occasionally see a few things in the n-f isle, but certainly not the variety shown in these messages. Can they be ordered online ?
