Dust, dirt, crumbs, hair, and pet fur are a constant battle in my house. They probably are in your house, too.
For a while, I’ve thought a handheld vacuum would be useful for quick cleanup jobs when I don’t want to drag out the big vacuum. Aldi sells handheld vacs from time to time, and this week they’re selling a wet / dry handheld vac.
The Ambiano Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets a single shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone until whenever Aldi might decide to bring it back. Aldi does not offer online ordering for this if it’s out of stock at your local store.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I bought this for $24.99 at my local store at the time of publication. That’s less than most other handheld vacuums I found online.

Unboxing the Ambiano Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner:

Upon opening the box, I found the vacuum itself, plus an array of accessories, the manual, and a warranty sheet. Everything is pretty self explanatory, and the manual helps with clarification.
The vacuum came out of the box with the wet suction nozzle attached. To swap it out for the crevice nozzle, simply tug on it gently and it will come out. Then, you stick the crevice nozzle into the vacuum. The crevice nozzle came out of the box with the upholstery attachment already on it. If you don’t want the upholstery attachment on there, it’s easy to pull it off.

I also spent some time familiarizing myself with how the dust container comes on and off the vacuum, as well as how the filter components work. The filter has two parts. The coarse filter is a hard plastic piece, while the dust filter is a soft fabric piece. The dust filter nests inside the coarse filter, and then that combined filter unit goes inside the dust container in the vacuum. The filter parts can be rinsed under running water if necessary.
The vacuum actually had a charge and worked straight out of the box, but the manual recommends charging it fully before you first use it. I attached the power adapter to the vacuum and plugged it into a wall outlet to charge overnight. By morning, it had a green light and was ready to use.
Using the Ambiano Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner:
This is a handy little vacuum to use around the house. It has decent suction, and it’s great for on / under / between the couch cushions, along baseboards, in tight corners, around the cat litter box, and behind furniture. It’s also good to use on my carpeted basement stairs that can be awkward to vacuum with a full-sized vacuum.
In addition, it’s very lightweight and easy to hold, which makes it good for vacuuming up cobwebs near ceilings or in upper wall corners, especially in my basement, most of which has an unfinished ceiling that seems to invite cobwebs. It’s much easier to use this handheld vac on ceilings like that because it’s more lightweight compared to my regular vacuum. One downside is that my large vacuum has a light that illuminates where the cobwebs are, and this small vacuum does not have that feature.
This has a decent-sized dust container, which should be emptied after vacuuming or whenever it is full. The dust container is easy to unscrew from the vacuum. It takes a little effort to get it properly lined up to fasten back on, but so far it hasn’t been too hard.
If you’re vacuuming liquids, you’ll need to empty the dust container right away after using. The manual also says to hold the vacuum with the suction opening facing down. Otherwise, liquid can get into the motor unit and damage it.
I’ll continue to put this through the paces, and I’ll update this review as necessary with any potential new information. My first impression, though, is that this is a useful little vacuum.
The Verdict:
The Ambiano Portable Wet / Dry Handheld Vacuum is lightweight and nimble, making it good for small cleanup jobs. It’s easy to use, has decent suction, and a good-sized dust container. We’ve had mixed experiences with other Aldi vacuums, but this one has been a good little vacuum so far. The three-year warranty adds some peace of mind, too.
