Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Alaskan Cod
We eat a lot of salmon in my house, but recently I was looking for something a little different from our usual seafood routine. I decided to try the frozen 2-pound family pack of Alaskan wild-caught cod from Aldi.
Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Alaskan Cod appears to be a Regular Buy at Aldi. That means you ought to be able to find it all year at Aldi.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I paid $11.49 for a 2-pound family pack of Alaskan cod at my local Aldi in early 2025. That comes out to about $5.75 per pound, or about 36 cents per ounce. With eight servings per package, that’s about $1.44 per serving.
This is skinless, boneless, and contains no preservatives. Each serving is individually wrapped. It’s certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council.
The cod was wild caught in Alaska in the Pacific Northwest, in FAO 67. It was trawler caught and caught using long line. The bag also states it was processed in and is a product of China.
The only ingredient is cod (Gadus macrocephalus). If you’re looking out for allergens, this naturally contains fish.
The package states there are 8 servings per bag. One 4-ounce serving has 90 calories, 1 gram of total fat (1% DV), no saturated fat, 160 mg of sodium (7% DV), and no carbohydrates, dietary fiber, or sugars. One serving has 18 grams of protein.

This is sold frozen and should be kept frozen. You’ll need to thaw it before you cook it. The package has directions for both thawing and cooking the cod. The package also says that for best taste, you should serve the cod within three months of purchasing it. If thawed, use it within three days.
The preferred thawing method (which I used) calls for removing portions from the vacuum wrap, placing them on a plate, and covering with plastic wrap. Place the covered portions in the refrigerator for 8-10 hours or until thawed.
For quick thawing, remove portions from the vacuum wrap and place under cold running water until completely thawed, approximately 2 minutes.
There are directions for baking or pan frying the cod.
To bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place fish in an oiled baking dish and season to taste. Bake for 8-12 minutes, until fish flakes when pierced with a fork. Fully cooked fish should have an internal temperature of 145 degrees.
To pan fry, heat oil in a pan to 375 degrees. If desired, season flour or cornmeal with your favorite herbs and spices and salt and pepper. Dip fish in flour or cornmeal, and fry until golden brown, approximately 1-3 minutes per side. Remove and serve hot.

I used a recipe for baked cod with lemon and garlic. I made a sauce using lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, and melted butter, and a breading made with flour, coriander, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. I quickly seared the fish in a pan on the stovetop, finished it by baking it in the oven, and topped it with fresh parsley. It turned out tender, flavorful, and delicious. I think I’ll be making this again.
The Verdict:
Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Alaskan Cod is sold frozen in a 2-pound family pack with eight servings. It’s ready to thaw, season, and cook however you want to. We tried it with a homemade breading and a buttery lemon and garlic sauce. It turned out great.
