Friendly Farms Whipped Topping

Plastic tubs of whipped topping are a staple of holiday gatherings. There’s usually a tub next to the pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. Or, on the Fourth of July, you might spot Jell-O salads made with cool whip.
When I was a kid, I occasionally ate frozen name-brand Cool Whip like ice cream. As an adult, I sometimes make Jell-O cake or poke cake topped with whipped topping for special events. These days, I keep a container of whipped topping in the freezer because it’s my family’s topping of choice when we have hot chocolate. If you’ve never tried a spoonful of frozen whipped topping on a mug of hot chocolate, you’re in for a treat.
The name brand, Cool Whip, is so ubiquitous that most people call all whipped topping that comes out of a plastic tub Cool Whip. However, there are plenty of grocers that sell their own store brands. Aldi sells whipped topping under its Friendly Farms private label, which encompasses various dairy products. (FYI: Friendly Farms is not a company.)
Friendly Farms Whipped Topping is a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find it at Aldi any time of year. It’s always stocked in the freezer case.
I used to see Aldi selling a light version of this alongside the regular version, but I couldn’t find the light version recently in my local store. I also currently don’t see the light version for sale on Aldi’s website. During the winter holidays, you might see Aldi selling an extra creamy variation or a larger 16-ounce tub.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds. I paid $0.99 for an 8-ounce plastic tub at my local Aldi in March of 2025. That comes out to about 12 cents per ounce.
For comparison, an 8-ounce tub of Cool Whip cost $1.98, about 25 cents per ounce, at Walmart in March of 2025. A 16-ounce tub of Cool Whip cost $3.94, also about 25 cents per ounce, at Walmart. I also found Walmart’s house brand Great Value Whipped Topping for $1.07 for 8 ounces, or about 13 cents per ounce. A 16-ounce tub of Great Value Whipped Topping is $2.07, also about 13 cents per ounce.
So, the Aldi version is cheaper than the name brand, and it’s just a bit less than other store brands.

This is kosher and gluten free.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk.
This is ultra-processed and loaded with ingredients you won’t find in homemade whipped cream. Ingredients are water, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm kernel oil, coconut oil), less than 2% of skim milk, light cream, sodium caseinate (from milk), natural flavors, xanthan gum, guar gum, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, and beta carotene (for color).
One container has about 25 two-tablespoon servings. One serving has 25 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat (2% DV), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (8% DV), no sodium, 3 grams of total carbohydrates (1% DV), no dietary fiber, 2 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (4% DV), and no protein.
The container has directions for thawing and serving this. Thaw it in the refrigerator for four hours prior to use. Keep refrigerated for up to 14 days.
My family has been using Aldi whipped topping for years. It doesn’t compare in terms of taste and ingredient quality to homemade whipped cream atop pie or other desserts. However, it’s comparable in taste and texture to name-brand Cool Whip. When I need whipped topping as a cake frosting, in a Jell-O salad recipe, to make a fruit dip, or simply to spoon onto my hot chocolate, the Aldi stuff does the job quite well.
The Verdict:
Friendly Farms Whipped Topping is the Aldi version of Cool Whip. We think it tastes as good and works as well as the name brand, and for a fraction of the price.

This is one of the Aldi items I gave a try to and found it not to be to my taste. I seldom buy the name brand unless its on sale. For years if I wanted this type of product I bought my regional grocery stores brand. It falls in-between price wise. That being said if I came across an extra-creamy tub of Aldi brand I might try again!
I have to agree with Pamela. To me, it’s not even close to tasting like Cool Whip; it’s much less flavorful. We usually buy Giant Eagle’s store brand when the real thing is not on sale, as theirs does taste close to the real thing.
The ingredients are so unhealthy!
That’s true. We never said it was a health food. We’re okay with it for occasional treats.
