Lacura Foaming Gel Cleanser

Aldi has sold its fair share of bath and body products since we started Aldi Reviewer nine years ago. We realized that some everyday Regular Buy products we wrote about long ago deserve an update. So, I wanted to re-review one product in particular to see if it’s changed at all.

Lacura Foaming Gel Cleanser

The Lacura Foaming Gel Cleanser is $2.99 and a Regular Buy, meaning it’s in stores year round. The bottle is 8.45 ounces (250 mL), which is around 35 cents per ounce. The cleanser is 20 cents more than when we last wrote about it in 2021.

The Foaming Gel Cleanser advertises itself as a make-up remover and cleanser in one, that gently cleanses with soft foaming action. It also claims it’s great for all skin types, being soap free, oil free, alcohol free, paraben free, non-comedogenic, and hypoallergenic. On the front of the bottle, it says it compares to Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser, which makes sense considering both bottles look very similar.

This cleanser is dermatologically tested, and it hasn’t been tested on animals.

The directions say to wet your hands and face with warm water, pump the cleanser into your hands, and work into a lather. Then gently massage onto your face using small circular motions. Then rinse your face well and pat dry.

Additionally, there’s a warning to avoid direct contact with eyes, and if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

The ingredients list looks slightly different compared to the last time we reviewed this, hopefully making the cleanser more suitable for all skin types.

When we last reviewed this cleanser, we found it dried out our skin, and we didn’t continue to buy it. So, I went into this hopeful that things had changed.

I used this in the shower as my facial cleanser. It starts out as a clear gel, and it turns into a light foam as you rub it in. There’s a light scent to it, though it never states it on the packaging, so if you’re sensitive to scented products, be wary of this.

It seemed to work fine at first, but when I got out of the shower, my skin was visibly redder, and it felt dry and tight on my face. I reached for my moisturizer as fast as I could, and it calmed my skin, but this cleanser isn’t something I’ll use again if it leaves my skin so uncomfortable.

Another relative tried the cleanser and thought it dried her skin out less than the previous formula. My skin has always been sensitive, so I have to be careful what I put on it,. This says it’s hypoallergenic, but maybe it still has some ingredients to aggravate sensitive skin types.

The Verdict:

The Lacura Foaming Gel Cleanser is $2.99 and a Regular Buy at Aldi. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment with my sensitive skin. I’ve really loved some Lacura items, like the oatmeal body lotion, so it’s unfortunate that this wasn’t a good experience. If your skin isn’t sensitive, maybe this would work for you, but I’m going to avoid it for the foreseeable future.

  1. Love Aldi, and when I first bought this product I was quite interested and excited about it (as someone who purchases Neutrogena face cleansers). I have rarely been so disappointed. While I understand it may not be Neutrogena-level expensive good, it simply did not lather at all nor felt like it was really cleansing anything. For me, it wasn’t about dryness, just no really working well. I’ve unfortunately felt similar about the other Lacura product I purchased (body wash), which also did not lather nor really seem to do anything.

I really hope that Aldi improves their Lacura brand personal care products. I would even spent a little more if they were genuinely good. There is a real market for decent and reasonably priced cleansing and washing products. I hope that they step up and fill that. I imagine I’m not the only one.

Also, a fragrance-free formula would be preferable. Not only less likely to irritate or cause an allergic reaction for some, but I’d rather not have a scent imposed on me, especially as a guy who may not want something floral, for instance.

Also, maybe ph-balanced would help those who feel like it dries their skin? Or perhaps drier-skin and oilier-skin options?

  2. I love this product ! I have been using it for years, however I am not able to find it in the stores near me 😔. Is it discontinued ?
