Open Thread: Aldi Play Aldi Die Cast Truck

For much of the mid-to-late 20th century, die cast vehicles were a hot toy item, especially among younger boys. Hot Wheels and Matchbox dominated the landscape, competing against each other for decades until, in 1997, Hot Wheels’ parent company Mattel bought out Matchbox and ended the rivalry.

Nowadays, die cast vehicles aren’t as popular as they once were, in no small part due to the explosion of smartphones and other portable entertainment. There’s still a market, though, both from kids and also from adult collectors who haven’t forgotten their roots.

Aldi has gone all in on its cult, with Aldi-branded apparel, toys, and accessories appearing in stores in recent years. Guess what else Aldi has decided to sell?

What We Know:

The Aldi Play Aldi Die Cast Truck is an Aldi Find. Stores get but one shipment, and once it’s sold out, you won’t be able to find it in stores again until it comes back, whenever that might be. If you can’t spot it on the shelves, you’re out of luck for now. Aldi doesn’t offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.

In 2026, the truck cost $3.99. It came in two styles: a U.S. truck style and a German truck style.

According to Aldi, the toy is, like many toys, suitable for ages 3 and up. The wheels are free-wheeling, so the truck can be moved around. The truck measures approximately 7.1 inches long, 1.2 inches wide, and 1.7 inches tall.

What We Don’t Know:
