Open Thread: Ambiano Mini Dehumidifier

Summer is on our doorsteps, and Aldi is selling several products to help keep you cool and comfortable as the temperature and humidity rise. The grocer’s recent weekly ads feature air conditioners and fans of all types.
The ad for June 18th, 2025, also includes a mini dehumidifier. I am no stranger to dehumidifiers. We sometimes run one in our basement to help control humidity. I have also used disposable dehumidifiers that require no electricity and simply sit on a shelf or wherever you want to place them.
Here, we’re taking a closer look at the mini dehumidifier Aldi is selling. This humidifier is different from any other type I’ve used before. You put it wherever you want to remove humidity from the air, and it has indicator beads that tell you when you need to plug it into a wall socket to renew it. The package states it “lasts up to 10 years longer than disposable brands!” Simply “dry, renew, repeat.”
What We Know:
The Ambiano Mini Dehumidifier cost $12.99 in 2025. That’s a bit more than in June of 2023 when it sold for $9.99 under the Easy Home Aldi private label. Still, that’s less than what similar renewable dehumidifiers go for on Amazon, where I couldn’t find any for less than $15 each. Amazon sells similar dehumidifiers in a 2-pack for around $25.
This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone until next time, whenever that might be. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.
Here’s more information, according to Aldi:

- Silica gel absorbs and stores humidity
- Product dimensions: approximately 6 x 1.5 x 4.5 inches
- Product net weight: 1 lb.
What We Don’t Know:
We haven’t yet tried this mini dehumidifier, so we don’t know how well it works, how easy it is to use, or how it holds up. We write open threads so readers can talk about Aldi products.

Save your money! They don’t work. Try something like Damp Rid, if you want a product for a small space.
Bought this today. Within 10 minutes of charging it, it became so hot that it was difficult to unplug without burning my hand. Going to return it tomorrow.
Any one know what the liquid capacity is?
Not worth it. The dehumidifier overheats when in the electrical socket and after awhile, no matter how long you’ll plug them in, they do not turn the beads orange. A great idea but poorly designed. You may get about 4-8 uses. But my hope was to be able to reuse longer than that for all the plastic and electronics that go into this, it is definitely not a green product, as I originally thought. This is not a worthwhile purchase and is wasteful.
Mine also overheated within 10 minutes. So hot I had trouble unplugging it.
I agree.. the unit was getting really hot and the beads never fully turned back to orange, like when we first purchased.. I hung it back up in the shower for a second time… if it doesn’t turn orange again, I’m throwing it out and buying damp rid.
I only bought 1 when I saw it at my Aldi and wish I had gotten more. I have been using it in my kid’s bathroom and it does its job. The mold issue I was having has resolved itself since they don’t have an extractor and when the beads are green I plug it in to dry out. It dries out in a couple hours and it does get warm but not hot. The instructions say that it would so I am not worries. I have yet to have an issue with the beads not drying out. I have had the product now since about April 2024.
I have had no problems with the one I purchased when it was initially offered. While the beads may not be the “vibrant” yellow as when first purchased, they still dry back out when recharged and turn dark a few weeks later when it’s ready for another recharge. It has helped with the mold problem in my closet.
I think this is fine for a light “dampness” problem. I had a musty smell in some closets and these solved the problem. If you have genuine moisture problems through, I’d go with Damp Rid or something similar that has the ability to pull a LOT of moisture from the air AND to get rid of it! My memory of Damp Rid is that you put a bucket or something underneath, and it will pull a lot of water from the air and drip it into the bucket until you can dry the rock things.
The little plastic things from Aldi are completely enclosed, and because there’s a heating element in the space, there can’t be many elements inside to absorb water. So I’m sure they would become quickly “full” in a shower situation or similar (we had a midwest, non-AC, house with a closet I kept Damp Rid in and had to drain and dry multiple times each summer)
Recently purchased this mini dehumidifier from Aldi. It charged all night and I took it and put in the room this morning. Nothing has lit up yet on it but I will give it more time.
Is it supposed to light up immediately or does it take time? The package instructions isn’t very thorough.
I cannot figure out how to attach the hanger, instructions are not useful, please advise. Thanks
I bought it two days ago and plugged it in. I can’t tell a difference. There is no color change, the beads look grey as they looked in the package. It also didn’t get hot, so maybe it did not charge?
It is only to be plugged in to recharge after use.
I bought one of these once. It’s way to small to be effective. Save your money.
