Open Thread: Easy Home Mini Dehumidifier

Summer is on our doorsteps, and Aldi is selling several products to help keep you cool and comfortable as the temperature and humidity rise. The grocer’s most recent weekly ad features air conditioners, fans of all types, and also a small dehumidifier.

I am no stranger to dehumidifiers. We sometimes run one in our basement to help control humidity. I have also used disposable dehumidifiers that require no electricity and simply sit on a shelf or wherever you want to place them.

Here, we’re taking a closer look at the mini dehumidifier Aldi is selling. This humidifier is different from any other type I’ve used before. You put it wherever you want to remove humidity from the air, and it has indicator beads that tell you when you need to plug it into a wall socket to renew it. The package states it “lasts up to 10 years longer than disposable brands!” Simply “dry, renew, repeat.”

What We Know:

Easy Home Mini Dehumidifier

The Easy Home Mini Dehumidifier (Product Code: 822046) cost $9.99 in June of 2023. That’s less than what similar renewable dehumidifiers go for on Amazon, where I couldn’t find any for less than $15 each. Amazon often sells similar dehumidifiers in 2-packs for around $30.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone until next time, whenever that might be. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

It appears to include a hook for hanging in a closet, bathroom, or anywhere you want to use it.

Here’s more information, according to Aldi:

  • Helps reduce odor and allergens, and prevents mold and mildew
  • Great for small enclosed spaces such as closets, safes, drawers, pantries, under sinks, cars, and RVs; safe to go anywhere.
  • Suited for spaces up to 333 cubic feet
  • Indicator beads tell you when the unit is full
  • No harmful chemicals
  • Lasts up to 10 years longer than disposable brands
  • Plug in to renew

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t yet tried this mini dehumidifier, so we don’t know how well it works, how easy it is to use, or how it holds up. We write open threads so readers can talk about Aldi products.

  1. Save your money! They don’t work. Try something like Damp Rid, if you want a product for a small space.

  2. Any one know what the liquid capacity is?

  3. Not worth it. The dehumidifier overheats when in the electrical socket and after awhile, no matter how long you’ll plug them in, they do not turn the beads orange. A great idea but poorly designed. You may get about 4-8 uses. But my hope was to be able to reuse longer than that for all the plastic and electronics that go into this, it is definitely not a green product, as I originally thought. This is not a worthwhile purchase and is wasteful.
